About me and my passion for cars

When I was at the young age of 11 or 12, a next door neighbor of mine, ( Hilmer Peterson ), had a 56 Chevy 2 dr. He was in his late 80's and had owned the car since 1958. Although I got in trouble for this, I used some of the money I made mowing lawns to subscribe to Hot Rod. Anytime I found a really nice Chevy, especially a 56, I would bring the magazine to him and we would admire the cars together. He always had time to encourage my passion, something nobody in my own family had any interest in doing!!! I wanted Hilmer to restore the 56, since it really didn't need that much. The interior was original and in perfect, but dusty, condition. He told me he would give me the car if I could figure out where to fill it with gas without crawling on the floor. I walked around that car for 30 minutes and even bent the rear license plate before he had to show me it was behind the tail light! Who knew? Lol. But, Hilmer was the one who convinced me that it was ok to view a car as something other than transportation. The color, the chrome, the lines, and the curves! R.I.P, Hilmer! You will always be the one I give the credit to.

1967 Chevelle SS 396 4-speed convertible. Could've had one for $1,500 when I was 15yrs old........parents said "no." They wanted me to be a jock!!!
