First trip to the track, followed by first flatbed ride

By 4DoorGTZ

Took the car to the local "test n tune" night here, first one of the year. Really hot out 29c and an effective Air Density of 5400ft. Did 5-6 runs kinda trouble free... A few wheel hop starts, one slow shift. But came out with a 13.5 @105 as a best (corrects to about 12.7 @112 at sea level).

Then I went for a run with the traction control turned off because I could feel it hurting me in the 2-3 shift where even if I had a touch of spin it would have been quicker then the tc kickin in and dropping the revs. Anyways launching with the tc off proved to produce the most wheel hop of the night, followed by a loud BANG. It then felt like I wasnt in gear but I was, I then realized I just blew the rear end.

No biggie really, I 1/2 expected it, this car had not been babied by me or the previous owner. It just sucks having an audience for such an event, then I sat for a couple hours for the flatbed tow truck to come get me from the parking lot.

Now it sits.... awaiting my decision.... put it together with another stock rear end or build it bullet-proof? I'm leaning towards the latter.

Well as these nice pics from a car wash keep reminding me how nice the car look all cleaned up. Its since sat in my parkade collecting dust cuz no one is interested.... granted its only been posted online to enthusiast sites..... Compared to the CTS-V this car is all bark no bite (loud exhaust but no where near as fast) I still feel this is the frist car I should part with, as the 3400Z26 has been quite good for a daily driver to and from work (200km 4 times a month)

Any takers? as is $2000, with all the parts/goodies I've got including vette brakes aluminum flywheel and stage 3 clutch $3000.... sigh.

Dyno #'s

By 4DoorGTZ

So a couple months ago I took the Cady to a Dyno for base numbers, to see what its got as I bought it.

420hp 361tq, kinda low on the tq for being S/C'd but oh well.

In talking to the originator of the tune on the car he said that was over a 2yr old tune and he's made leaps and bounds since.

So I purchased a second PCM for him to reflash with his new tune, and had it swaped in a couple weeks ago.

This morning I just got the new tune Re-Dyno'd with nice gains, 40hp and 40tq

460HP 403TQ at the rear wheels.... still through the stock exhaust, and thats the next thing to go.

Then this "Huge" 3.0" pulley needs a diet :)

Got Fuel?

350km trip, each way.

Home-->>Destination....
Spirited driving, playing with a few vehicles on the road, constant W.O.T..... Whole tank of gas GONE!

Destination-->>Home...
15mins of "rabbit chasing", gave up cruise set at 125kmh, arrive home 1/2 tank used.

Moral of the story, Heavy right foot = lotsa dead dinosaurs go to "waste"

New (to me) Car!

By 4DoorGTZ

Got back last week from a trip to the Seattle area picking up my new car, the CTS-V in my profile...

So far driving it (limitedly) the last week I can honestly say its Scary Fast, 200kmh at the top of 4th gear, 100kmh near the top of 2nd. Havent got the guts to turn off traction control yet.... I'm still getting acustomed to the power. Gone from 180 to 550 horsepower, can no longer just floor it to merge or make a left turn on a yellow light, unless I'm in 4th-6th it steps out sideways (thank you traction control)

Might drive it on days off for another month or two then it gets parked for the winter, when I'll go back to my 3400 Z26, sigh.

Another weekend to work on the car :)

So finally have a weekend off and what am I gonna do that fits into this section?
Run my stereo wires, yay!

Might sound like a big whoop dee doo but you see I've had these piece sitting in my closet for a couple years now, so long infact that the deck I was planing to use is just gonna stay in the other car now.

To catch up here's what I'm installing:
Pioneer Premier DEH-980BT in a custom MRZ flushmount
Infinity Perfect 10.1 Sub Free air 400w
Infinity Perfect 6.1 Component set 1" tweeters 6.5" woofers 100w
Infinity Kappa 692.5i 6x9's 110w
3 Infinity Beta Digital 100 amps 100w x2 or 400w x1
Optima Yellow top in the trunk, wired via a battery isolator (alt can charge this battery, but components on it cant drain the starting battery)

If I get my 3 RCA's, alternator power, stereo wire up to the front xovers all run this weekend I'll be happy. Gotta make it nice so I'll be taking out all the seats and maybe the console to run this mess through the car. I can deal with the amp to speaker connections later.... I dont even have the new deck installed yet, or my tweeters/woofers mounted in my A-Pillars/Kick panels.

Install Day

By 4DoorGTZ

Well the GTZ is now parked for the winter, and who wants a boring stock winter beater? Got my Underdrive Pulley. Lower Dogbone engine mount, Upper engine mount insert and Tranzgenic intake all installed today. Car sounds mean as hell at WOT.

Juggling

By 4DoorGTZ

Juggling between 2 cars is kind of a pain, depending what I'm doing or where I'm going I switch up. Soon the snow will fly and I'll have to park the GTZ and throw the winter meat on the Z26.

Goodies

My FFP goodies arrived today, Underdrive Pulley and Dogbone lower mount... Waiting on my tranzgenic intake then I'll install them all at once.

Goodies

Last time I was home from work I installed the BOMZ underdrive pulley that has been sitting in storage for about a year.... while I was at it I installed the CarCustoms upper engine mount poly insert. FFP Dogbone lower mount was installed couple weeks before that, so now only mount that is left stock is the tranny mount.

cant say the pulley/mount insert feel any quicker, but there is a slightly increased amount of vibration at low (parking lot) speeds from the stiffer mounts :)

The garage as it will be for a while....

By 4DoorGTZ

Just got my 3400z all inspected and registered to be legal here, so some of my plans can go into effect. The 3400z will be my daily driver for a couple years, while I build up the GTZ to the neighborhood of 400hp.

All I need is time and space, I work 21-25 days a month (usualy straight) and have to permanent garage to work in. Condo parkade is storage only, parents garage (the pics) would be a stretch to use for a whole weekend.

Anyhoo installed a Bomz underdrive pulley and Car Customs upper engine mount insert into the GTZ this weekend, FFP aluminum dogbone mount couple weekends ago. Thats the most productive I've been in a couple years!
