Finished up the test fitting

By Bumpin1ohmSS

Went up to my buds bodyshop to test fit the trimmed down panel on my old dashboard. Worked out great. The instructions in the kit were right on point. Next thing is to sand the plastic bezel and get the metal plate sand blasted, engraved and chromed. Stay tuned Motortopians...

Radio/HVAC swap project

By Bumpin1ohmSS

Guess I can add another project to the great list "o" projects I have goin on. I picked up a kit from thedetailss.com that flips flops the radio and hvac controls. The kit does away with the factory trim, and I wanted to do something about that. I love the textured finish on top and bottom, and the red pin stripping the factory bezel has. Made up a template and mocked it up. Took the template and new metal faceplate into work and trimmed it down. Next thing is to test fit it on my other dash, and then sandblast the metal plate. I want to get it engraved and chrome plated. This is what i have done so far..

Power mirrors for the SS

By Bumpin1ohmSS

Thanks to my homie Tony(AKA TTop Tony) for hooking me up with some power mirror guts and a switch to control the mirrors. The guts come from a 1990 Camaro, and the switch comes from a 1992 Caprice. I drew up a wiring diagram using some notes I got from a forum I visit. Wired it all up and viola!! They worked!! Now all I gotta do is hit my local electronic shop for all the male/female quick disconnects and I'll have power. I'm going to do a full write up with detailed instructions, upclose clear well lit pics, and even some video. Trying to make it as easy as pie for the next guy/gal that wants to try this mod. Stay tuned...Warren

Another night of sanding

By Bumpin1ohmSS

Got some more work done on my instrument cluster face plate last night. I took my taped off faceplate to the shop and had some plastic filler layed down to fill in the factory striping groove. I made a little sanding block and smoothed the area out. Coming together nicely. I think this will really make the face plate stand out while keepin a little of the factory lines. This whole smoothing the center idea has got me wanting to sand down my dash. That would be a serious task, but would look SSweet once painted and cleared. Hmmm....

Customizing Some interior parts

By Bumpin1ohmSS

Did some work on my big box "O" interior parts today. Got some supplies together and starting removing the textured finish from my instrument cluster face plate, and did some sanding prep work on some other parts. Body work has always been interesting too me. Decided to jump in head first and start practicing on these small parts.

Digital dash project

By Bumpin1ohmSS

Got all the parts together for my complete digital gauge setup. Triple pillar holds 2 Dakota digital amp temp gauges and 1 amp current gauge. Ttop gauge holder has another amp temp gauge and exhaust gas temp gauges. The instrument cluster has Dakota Digi's gauge instrument panel as well as two holes cut to hold a "cooled" trans temp gauge and a fuel pressure gauge. I can see what the trans temp looks like before cooling and after cooling. Krylon fusion and SEM paints will be used. I scored a complete bezel, base and gauge holder for cheap on ebay. I'll post progress photo's daily..

Worked on my cracked dash yesterday

By Bumpin1ohmSS

Got motivated after reading about a buddy's repair work he did on his dash. It's starting to come together. It really helps when you know peeps in the auto biz. Having the right tools to get the job done makes a world of difference in how the outcome will be. I'm really liking how its turning out...

Finished up the bay

By Bumpin1ohmSS

Went up to the shop and finished up on the engine bay. I'm pleased with the outcome, and I'm really glad I took on the task. My new H.O. crate 350 will look right at home in there. I sent my accumulator(sp??) out to be polished and should have it back Monday. I also ordered a custom Optima battery holder in aluminum. I'll polish that also

Sprayed bay today

By Bumpin1ohmSS

Went down to the shop and sprayed the bay. Nice weather for it. Not too hot. Came out decent. I'm no pro, but it looks a million times better than before. So so glad I got off my lazy butt and got her degreased and sprayed. Droppin' her off to the mechanic in the morn after I get home from work. The H.O. Deluxe 350 came in as well.(BIG SMILE) Time to go header and exhaust shoppin! WOOHOO!!!

Prepped engine bay for rust coat and paint

By Bumpin1ohmSS

Went down to the shop today and did some more work on the engine bay. Yesterday's de-greasing turned out great!! I taped off some parts, rubber grommits and such, and also taped the whole front nose and l/r fenders. He's shooting it a semi gloss black in the morn. Then its back to the mechanic for the Deluxe H.O. 350. Cant wait!!

Nothin like workin' on your ride..

By Bumpin1ohmSS

Got the old tired 350 out, and started gutting the engine bay to de-grease it and prep for paint. Man there's nothing like workin on your ride!! I dont know much about engines and such, but I'm learning. I think you get more respect from other enthusiast when you work on the project your self, or had your hand in on it. It was 100+ degrees today. Cleaning her was no walk in the park!!
