No Pace Car For Prom!

By Doughty

Wow, everything was a go, then fizzle -pop!

Well, Charlie had William and I take the two T/A's to Bemidji, a town about 45 miles from the Shop, to have them aligned. Needless to say we got a lot of attention, and it took over five hours to get the job done. The black car was finished first, and it was getting close to prom, so we had William take the black one home, and I would wait for the white one, then he could get ready for prom, and take the car when I got there. Sounds good, but it was just not meant to be. I got ten miles down the road and started to lose power, the gauges looked fine, but I could smell it getting hot. I decided to pull on to the shoulder and that’s where she died. Understand, I know nothing about cars for the most part, I'm a Machinist, but I know white vapor rolling from under the bird on the hood is not what they mean by FIREBIRD. I make the call home to let them know I need help. Just about that time the Highway Patrol Flicks on his lights, flies through the ditch and pulls up behind me. I'm thinking, no front plates, and tinted windows, both punishable offenses, great! Nope, he had a report of a car on fire, and asked if everything was ok. And wow, what a nice car!!! ( I could not resist taking a picture)
To make a long story short, William had to pick up his Date in his truck, which is very nice. The only thing William had to say when I called to tell him was, "It’s OK Mom, Can I still go on the Bandit Run?" LOL. I'm sure by Sunday night the car will have a 330 hp GM Crate Motor installed, with a Turbo 350 Trany. Charlie assures me William will like this much better.

Bandit run car 81/77 TA 21 days to go

By Doughty

Description: Its so close, and then something stupid holds up the hole show! wiper motor, works and then stops working. I never saw anything like it. changed the motor with a new one, same thing, change witches, four or five different ones, still the same, it works for a short time we think we found the problem solved, put the dash back together, try it again and nothing. then we get the solenoid to click so ground is good, ohm out all wires from switch, all good. diode reads in one direction not the other, put 12volts direct to motor, motor will not run, then it will for 45 seconds, then it wont. then it will for 90 sec. then it wont. three motors doing close to the same thing. we even got a wire harness and plugged it in outside the car to 12 volt, same ****. motor seems to be shorted to the case, reading resistance from both leads to housing . ordered a new motor, will see what happens. will put it in a known working car, then in 81 TA.
He wont take it out tell its all working, so no test drive yet. Looks good though. Kinda like the hot chick with no brains. LOL

Bandit run 81/77 TA

The fenders, flairs and all small parts are primed, sanded, and painted. The body is buffed, 5 hours of running full rpms on the dewalt. Charlie is very happy with how it looks. Now the Bird, and putting it together. Sounds easy, but any one who's actually put the parts back together, knows he's got a long way to go....And then he has to make it run, lights, windows, ect.... the list goes on and on and onnnn. We are starting to think we might not make it.

What Do YOU Think? Center CAP

By Doughty

This is the center cap that is on the snowflake wheels, that I’m prepping for the gold paint that will go on them. Gold matching the Gold Bird and the Gold trim. Here is the Question, would you go with the red Bird that matches the Pontiac emblem, the steering wheel center, floor mats and seat. Or go Gold to match the trim? What would you do? Let us know what you think!! Thanks

8 weeks to go Bandit Car 81 TA

By Doughty

Working on the paint job. This is labor intensive, a person could save time and take short cuts, but that just wouldn’t be right! scape and clean everything!!! Block sand. prime. Block sand. prime. Block sand. PRIME. "everything the eye can see, will all be sanded." (and the places the eye cant see!) LOL
I never realized all the curves this beauty has, no wonder you guys fall in love with your cars. Oh did I mention it has to be sanded at the correct angle, sometimes on the edge, sometimes flat, back and forth at 45degree angles, unless your on that sexy curve, then you just have to feel it, Yes you just have to FEEL the car... We have a long way to go!!!! This is going to be awesome!!!Charlies going to need a vacation after 8 more weeks of this.

Bandit Car 81 TA

By Doughty

After spending the better part of two weeks rubbing. Brushing, scrapping, cutting, welding, grinding bolting, unbolting, crawling on ,in, over, and under, a dirty, rusty, smelly, old decrepit car. That my fiance, keeps telling me, is soo nice.... just keep working. I think I'm falling in Love! ( With The Car) The sad part is the more time I spend with this car the worse it looks. Take a look, we have a long way to go...This is Charlie inspecting my work, really he's showing me how to do it correctly . lol
