Truckload of 1962 Starfire parts

By HURSTOLDZ

Hey all, I wanted to share with you a score I picked up this past week. I have been watching an ad on craigslist for a complete 62 Starfire with extra parts, the car was totally disassembled even the body was off the frame, but resting on the frame.

After 3-4 months the car was not selling so I asked if he wanted to sell me the stainless trim for my car, he said make an offer. I did and he accepted. Then he said add $400 and I can take it all if I wanted to.

I rented a 10' box truck from uhaul and drove 125 mies to pick it all up. all the stainless is perfect, could use a polish. The chrome parts are pitted. The aluminum side trim is just better than average which is better than the ones on my car which have bodywork and white paint on them :)

If you care to see the parts here is the link http://rides.webshots.com/album/572098696OZmShY

Tested the Starfire today

By HURSTOLDZ

I took out the 62 Starfire convertible for its first decent ride around town to see how she performed.

My first observation was that the slim jim transmission truley lived up to its reputation... garbage! The first to second upshift was slow and the second to first downshift was terrible! Shakes, clunks, and sputters seem to be the "norm" but once I got it into second and then third she ran great!

Also there is a thumping noise at idle... might be the damper plate, these slim jims do not have convertors, and this ***could*** explain the terrible downshifts.

Have to replace the exhaust system down the line as it leaks, probably due to the blind person who welded in sections of pipe.

Front end seemed ok, not too sloppy, and the rear is non- posi.

OK thats all for now!

God bless you all!

Added much better pictures!

Thinking about my new arrival... when?

By HURSTOLDZ

So I am sitting here at work, thinking about the 1962 Starfire I just purchased, wondering when the trucking company will pick it up and exactly how long it will take it to arrive here in New York from California.

This is the first time I am buying a car sight unseen, but I did have a friend I know from online go take a peek and some pictures. He says it is rust free, but it does need some work, mostly cosmetics as you can see in my Garage pictures.

It is a rare car as only 7600 convertibles were built, and this one is just about fully loaded including factory a/c. I got it fairly cheap, $8000 and I guess that is what concerns me so much.

To make it a show car it will take me probably $10,000 to $15,000, but it don't need to be a show car right away.

Anyway I cannot wait to see it with my own eyes, drive it ect.

God bless you all, Jesus loves you!
