About Leepenley’s Garage

About me and my passion for cars

I am not a big car nut. However every since I was young and watched Smokey and the Bandit, I fell in Love with that black and gold Trans Am. I had one when I was a young man but due to financial situations at that time I had to sell it for just what I owed. I really lost my butt on that deal. I swore that one day I would have another one. 26 years later I found one sitting in my neighbors driveway wasting away. He had good intentions on fixing it up but now that he was retired Golfing got in his way. He had purchased it brand new out of the showroom in Winston-Salem, NC in 1978. He and his wife also loved the Bandit movie. Well as luck would have it he sold it to me in June of 2005 and said good luck to me. 9 months later (just like a full term pregnancy) a new car was born from that old 78 trans am. I kept it all original, all numbers matching. The body did not have any repair needs. The only rust was some surface rust. We took that car completely apart, had the engine completely rebuilt, sandblasted the entire car, painted everything to factory specs, and put all back together again just like from the factory. It has the original Pontiac 400 CID engine, original 4 speed super T10 transmission, and everything works in it great. It registers 112,000 miles right now. I did put the original snowflake rims on it and added the gold bird wheel caps to it. I even have the original T-Top covers in mint condition. The trunk has the original hounds tooth cloth floor covering in it. I did have to wash it though. The original small space saving spare tire with all the hold down parts is still in the trunk where it belongs and has never been used. I am very proud of this car. I even installed a bearcat CB in the lower space below the original am/fm 8 track radio just like in the movie. I am the Bandit & my wife is Frog, and my Dog is Fred. We are reliving a piece of our past & history. Looking forward to the future with this wonderful car. This car is all original, all numbers matching, no body work, laser straight lines.
