We've been busy with other events and interviews these past few weeks. but, we did get to our favorite show in ventura back on labor day weekend. killer show, great cars, and all in one day now.
Holly Gollob is the sweetheart and brain that promotes this event.
she gets all of downtown Ventura involved with movie night, art show, photography show, reliabilty run to keep gearheads busy.

all good stuff.

2013 Ink N Iron

By PrimerPodcast

This was a pretty cool show. Though a lower turnout than last year, it still took a whole day to get through it all. The customs in the Dome or the Motorama is the key attraction for us. Quite the gathering of history and great craftsmanship was on display.

2013 Antique Nationals

By PrimerPodcast

We returned to the Irwindale Speedway for the 43rd annual Antique Nationals for some great 1/8th mile drag racing for pre 57 cars, trucks and motorcycles. Got a homemade something of that era? not a problem. Bring a helmet, strap on your seat belt, pass tech, you got a lane to dial in! Vintage everything. This event also had a small swap meet area and a strong presence from the Ford 4 club. Tons of cool roadsters in the show area along with lots of pickups and motorcycles. Check the Whizzers out as well.

NMCA West Coast Shootout - Pomona,CA

By PrimerPodcast

We hit the 1/4 mile strip at Pomona for the 3rd annual NMCA West Coast Shootout for some great drag racing on Saturday, May the 18th. Just about 500 race cars, 200 show cars, vendors and a lot more race fans than last year.
Great weather and some fast cars, dragsters, modifieds and no motorcycles.
Super Comp, Super Quick, Open Comp and True Street to name a few classes.
We saw 200+ mph's and 7 seconds. no problem.

Knotts Fabulous Fords Forever Car Show

By PrimerPodcast

The Primer Podcast checked out the Fabulous Fords Forever show at Knotts Berry Farm in Buena Park, CA on April 21st. Every piece of Ford history rolled into this show. Mustangs (we gotta mention that one first), Cougars, Mavericks, Model T's, A's, Pintos, Mustang II's, Comets, Fairlanes, Sunliners, Skyliners, T-birds, Lincolns, Torinos, Galaxies, Rancheros, Broncos, F-100's, Econolines and even Edsel. Not alot of primer to be found at this show, but a great slice of all the years from 1915-2012. Sound like a lot? try looking at 1,100 Mustangs.
We dont have a pic of every car, (thank god) but i think we got a good sample of some inspiration to get your old Ford moving again.
And a tip for early-risers, bring a portable chair and sit on the sidewalk. You will be treated to a 3 hour drive-by car show.

2013 Econo West van show and swap

By PrimerPodcast

We checked out the Econo West van show and swap at the Rose Bowl, in Pasadena, CA on April 13th. What better to do when you finished doing your taxes and it was a lazy overcast day? There was probably about 20 vans and a few non Ford samples of vintage 70's van life experiences.
Take a look at the photo gallery for The Stabbin Cabin love portal.
Custom inerior with mirrors, shag and upholstered walls. Lets not forget the built in cooler and faux stained glass pendant lights.
Octagonal steering wheel? yep, we saw those too. But before you start bashing on vans, take a closer look at what can be done with these. Case in point, the slammed metallic flake Econoline dressed with maple hardwood seats and custom stainless struts in the ceiling.
Form follows function with these basic boxes that dictate utilitarian usage and most often, neglect. There's always time to learn how to drive one of these with the 3 speed column shift. It's been too long for me.

The Del Mar Nationals

By PrimerPodcast

Goodguys puts on a good show at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in Del Mar, CA.
the turf meets the surf and frankly, it was pretty damn cool.
cruising around in your muscle car, open header Mopar, traditional style hot rod with a flathead, or an airbagged chevy pickup. it dont matter. watching the auto cross and drivers pretty much drifting the 60's Detroit steel around the course under a minute is pretty cool.
a pretty decent swap meet area as well, but seems everyone has something for sale these days.
a great show, i'll go back next time for sure.

2013 Hot Rod Homecoming

By PrimerPodcast

Happy 65th to Hot Rod Magazine. It has come a long way from the small beginning in 1948 with Robert Petersen to one of the most prominent automotive magazines of all time.

This gathering of Hot Rod Magazine cover and feature cars actually became a real life timeline of history dedicated to the hot rod. The show was appropriately placed around the NHRA Motorsports Museum, in Pomona, CA at the Fairplex on March 22-24. Despite a lower turnout for Sunday, this show still brought out the essence to celebrating what we always have a passion for, quite simply, a hot rod. Start with the dry lakes roadsters, belly tanks, modifieds to all out street rods and AMBR winners, this show had it. Hot Rod did a good job of placing large posters next to each car with its image from when it was originally featured in the magazine. A retrospective of then and now in your face and how in most cases, the car has changed very little. A documented history of your car being in Hot Rod increases its value by huge amounts, especially if it makes the cover. Wouldn’t we all like to have our ride on the cover of Hot Rod? These cars filled 3 buildings with plenty of space for photos. Vendors were mixed inside while the larger displays were parked outside. Overall, the mood was mello with the beer line maybe being two people deep.

Of course, while you’re at the Fairplex, its always a good idea to check out the NHRA Museum. Get your fill on more hot rodding history, the SCTA, Wally Parks and the birth of the NHRA from 1955 to present. Looking at some of those racecars makes you ask the question “would I get in that and go 110+ mph?” Then tell yourself some guy did that on the dry lake bed when you get in your late model car with seat belt warning light and alarm to head home. Those guys had balls, man!

This show did not have the super high number of hot rods and customs like the annual
L.A. Roadster Show or the Grand Nationals, but it certainly made its point of just how important Hot Rod Magazine has affected us and more importantly, the industry.

The Down Low Car Show

By PrimerPodcast

We checked out the Down Low car show back on March 9 in Anaheim, CA. Sponsored by the 91 Car Show.
It had turned out to be a good day even with the lower turnout.
I think most were threatened by the possibility of rain.
Despite that, some cool cars, trucks and live music.
