- Description: I've always believed that when it comes to restoring old cars, there isn't much time and money won't fix. Even for a wreck of an old, first generation Grand Am where parts are near impossible to find.
Given this car was lightly optioned (originally a dual barrel carb, single exhaust 400 with no power accessories), I decided to restore it as I would have preferred to have seen it from the factory.
Brace yourself, the "before" photos are ugly as sin. But I think most of you would agree, the results were worth it.
The car deteriorated rapidly between 1992 and 1995 and appeared much worse than it looked. After blasting the car with baking soda, we discovered the sheet metal was in remarkedly good shape with only minor rust in the lower quarter panels right behind each door.
Most of the after photographs were taken prior to painting the wheels (afterwards, I left the trim rings off) as well as removing the chrome trim around the trunk and adding more pinstriping to completely encircle the car.
The last two photographs are as the car appears today. - By: Tinman5
