I will be so glad when this season is over

By 1965covair

I have been working nights this year which precludes my doing much of anything. Then we had that wonderful storm in June which added to my workload as I had to reroof and put new siding on my house.
So between 12 to 14hrs at night and the 4 hrs everyday working on house I am just about wore out. At least the house is finished so now I can get my rest during day.Hope to see ya'll after the layoff in December

Oh the fun of body work

By 1965covair

I have been taking advantage of the nice weather to try and fill in some of the rust. And as I do not have the money to buy the sheet metal right now I am using some Material I found at Menards to bridge the worst holes and then going over with bondo (hangs head in shame ) but at least will stop the rust from eating anymore of the good metal as am cutting out the worst and treating reat with rust converter for now . that should allow me time to buy new panels and maybe build a garage to work in.

Well I recovered the dash pad over the weekend and installed the original radio which still works and miracles of miracles the original wiring was intact and undamaged. Also did some cleanup and painting on interior looks much better now. Am starting on the rust repairs now.

Headliner

By 1965covair

Well it got warm enough last weekend for me to install the headliner wasn't to bad a job but could have used a extra pair of hands as its hard to stretch and tuck at same time but since I didn't glue yet I will be able to takeout wrinkles later. I also measured and found that seats from Kia sportage will fit great. Both front and rear seats are same size as Corvair.

Winter Fun

By 1965covair

I have been driving the Corvair to work everyday It starts right up and heater works great. It gets around great also. But I am looking forward to working on it this spring.

Took It for Spin

By 1965covair

Well took it up and had the new tires put on boy are those hard to find around here. only ones I found were at Firestone in Council Bluffs. Fixed a few bugs in lights down to two have to replace LF parking light and the L inner high beam bulb needs replaced. Put atempoary patch over hole in floor until I can get the parts and time to fix right. Ordered the new plug wires that should cure the light display under hood.
Then took it out on highway and got up to 65 mph didn't run too bad although might improve with tuneup. Just finished the checkover for leaks nothing so far. It handled pretty well although might have weak springs as seemed to bottom out on some bumps but went straight down road with out much correction.

Picked up Car today

By 1965covair

Well I picked it up today and must say for a car that sat for ten years not bad. It does need a tuneup and new plug wires as it looks like 4th of july fireworks under hood at night. And inreal need of new tires they bounced like basketballs at 60MPH. But it rode and handled nice. Transmission shifted smoothly and engine does smoke a little both running rich and A little oil smoke which I expected after sitting that long. Heater does work so am luck there. lights all work but need to replace turn signal cam as it does not self cancel. Had to stick piece of paper under horn button as it seemed to want to go off everytime I turned steering wheel. Checked underneath when I got home and no signs of oil leaks.

My better half informed me that Old Blue is not blue but green instead. Oh well I will defer to her but I still think its Blue. I should have it all paid for in about 3 more weeks.
