The other day when I took the Double Deuce (our 1948 Chevy Truck) to the transmission shop Mary was following me and said she could barely see my tail, stop, and signal lights in the day light. I ordered new Stainless steel LED tail lights and installed them today. The SS lights were well made with SS bolts, screws, and cases. Everything works now and is very bright.

As I said earlier we had a problem with the Double Deuce (our 1948 Chevrolet truck) after we got it back from the transmission shop. Whenever we were heading up a grade the truck started bouncing, that is, speeding up, then slowing down, very rapidly.

I got lucky. Replaced the fuel filter and drove the truck down the big grade to Lake Mead. I really pushed it on the way back up. No problems, it was the fuel filter. I could not blow through the filter no matter how hard I tried. I told the girl at the parts store it was for a 1979 Pontiac 301 V8 and she came up with the correct filter the first try.

I'm going back out now and try to get the new tail lights installed today.

Problems with "The Double Deuce". Since we got our 1948 Chevrolet Truck back from the transmission shop we have a small problem. Whenever we are heading up a grade the truck starts bouncing, that is, speeding up, then slowing down, very rapidly. Could be the transmission not wanting to stay in gear but I lean more toward the fuel system even though the truck just came back from the transmission shop.

This morning I will check out the fuel lines from the tank forward and the fuel filter. I suspect one to be the culprit (could also be a smashed fuel line). I will let you know what I find and get a photo.

We received our new LED tail, and stop lights on Saturday. Hopefully I will get them installed today also.

The Red Mountain Plaza had a block party today. Everything was free including food, drinks, great prizes, face painting etc. Some of the prizes included a Kayak Trip, AC repair, Auto Detailing, and on and on.

They wanted a few classic cars so we took our 1948 Chevrolet Truck "The Double Deuce" and spent several hours there.

Great music, food and fun.

We dropped our truck off at Henderson Transmission yesterday 11/04/08 and picked it up today 11/05/08. Rick the owner of the shop put in a new transmission and torque converter. The old one still worked well but had some obvious brass pieces in it that should not be there. I had the torque converter done at the same time because I know you can never get all the crap out of the converter any other way.

We are very pleased with the work and to be honest the price was a great deal less then other shops in the area and we really like Rick and trust him.

I posted earlier about our new tail, stop, signal lights I ordered today for the truck. I got LED with stainless steel housings. The old lights are a little dim and we sometimes go to Vegas where you can run into some real traffic.

Today I ordered new New LED stop, tail, turn signal lights for the Double Deuce. Our truck is currently in the transmission shop getting a new transmission and torque converter. The old trans worked well enough but when we took it down there was brass in it from the bands so I decided to buy a new beefed up tranny.

Our tail and stop lights are hard to see so we ordered the new ones today.

All 45 red led's light up for tail and all get brighter for stop/turn. The left side has 6 white led's for the license plate light. They use epoxy coated, fully sealed electronics on solid state circuit boards. Cork gasket. These appear stock until you look close. The led's are instant on.

Jerry Jr. and his wife Anita left a few hours ago. They were up for a couple days and we ate at restaurants the entire time. We had one really great meal at the Hacienda Hotel and Casino. They have an $8.00 prime rib buffet and it was simply great. I truly do not want to tell you how many times Jerry jr. and I went back through the line for more roast prime rib. I will tell you this, we were hungry and had more then two prime rib dinners each. The desert looked great but I had no room for it. Mary and Anita had the prime rib but they were not hogs. Oh darn.

This evening Mary and I went to a sandwich shop in town called xxxx or something like that. Ordered one $6.99 sandwich, with cheese and onion it cost $11.00. We brought it home and I did not even eat it. God I hate to bad mouth a local restaurant but that was a sad experience.

We drove to Vegas for a car show. It was held at Gauden Ford on Sahara. It was sponsored by Gauden Ford and Barrett Jackson. Good food and lots of drawing prizes. We ended up leaving early at it got too cold for Mary. We did get free tickets to the Barrett Jackson auto auction to be held in Las Vegas Oct. 15-18 at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino for the first time.

The good, Barrett Jackson gets some nice cars and runs a clean auction. The bad, they want a $500.00 fee for a bidders card. The fee in Palm Beach Florida is only $350.00. I registered my complaint but I suspect it fell on deaf ears. We are thinking of using the tickets we got today and not registering to bid. They also ran out of spaces for sale cars so we could not sell a car there this year. We did want to bid on a Coddington hot rod on Sunday.

We attended the Hustlers Car Show at the Wurstfest in Boulder City today. It was a fun show and a lot of the proceeds go to providing a Senior Graduation Party (all night) where prizes are given out all night long with the grand prize being a car. Our senior class attendance is over 97%.

New head liner in the Double Deuce today. Mary did not like the head liner in our 48 truck so I put a new one in today. For what it is worth I would have preferred to do four sets of seat covers instead (I hate doing headliners) anyway the job is done except for running a piece of trim down the center. It was hard to relocate the holes for the sun visors.

It is 3:33 in the morning here in Nevada. I got up about three since I was awake anyway. I have a UPS package that I have been tracking (it got to Vegas yesterday) and I'm really looking forward to receiving it. (its the kid in me, something new and all that) When the package arrives it has new armrests for our truck and some new headliner parts (Mary does not like the headliner so I will put a new one in).

I installed a new power point and new running board steps this morning!

I did not have a power point plug in the 1948 Chevy truck so I had to install one this morning so I could use the GPS system in the truck with out running down the batteries in the GPS. I got lucky and found a hole already in the bottom of the dash so I did not have to drill anything new for the power point.

I ordered the new steps last week and really liked them when they arrived. I do not use the running board to get into the truck but Mary needs to step on the running board so these will keep the running boards looking nice and fresh. They are aluminum and were an easy install. I did use stainless steel screws, nuts and washers.

Now that I have the power point plug I guess I will install a back up camera next to make it easier to see without adding an additional mirror.

We drove the Double Deuce down into Henderson today to get our friend (he owns Henderson Transmission) to put the truck on the lift and check out the tranny, mounts etc. Everything looked great (some cleaning is needed) and I was so pleased to get a good look at the underside.

Yesterday I sanded the wood in the back of the Double Deuce. I got up about 3:30 this morning and sanded a little more. About 10:30 am PDT I applied Man O War varnish to the wood. It had looked ok but there were some water stains so the old sealer was not working any longer.

I guess I do not have too much planned for today. I think Mary wants to go to the store this afternoon and I will go with her. Other then that I will kick back and enjoy the day.

Friday I took the El Camino for a spin around town. God I love driving it. After that I took the Dam Truck to the dump so I could throw away our hot water heater that was in the back of the truck. I drove the Prowler around for a bit with the top down but the sun was pretty bright so I did not stay out long.

This morning I went to look at a 1971 Dodge Challenger R/T 440 5SPD that is for sale on Ebay. It is as close as perfect as I have seen in a while. Total restoration and many upgrades like the five speed transmission and lots of others.

I just came in from the garage where I sanded the wood in the bed of the 1948 Chevrolet Truck (Double Deuce) and I will put a coat of varnish on it tomorrow. Dam hot out but I will likely wait until afternoon shade on the garage side of the house.

Wow, the saga of the pickup continues. We did go to the DMV and get the truck registered today. The truck is doing great and we really love it. For the Saga of the truck see the truck in our garage as it was a lot of writing. Needless to say I do not need headaches but now and again.... Oh well things are all ok now.

It is 105 degrees here again today so I will wait until this evening and we will fool around with the truck again. I want to get some photos with lights (McDonalds parking lot perhaps) and see how they come out this evening.
