Mystery Car of the Day (July 2, 2008)

This one should be an interesting one. This picture is showing quite a bit of the car, and there are a couple big clues in it:
* It is one of the few cars that can have its "skin" removed in this manner, displaying its skeleton like this
* The b-pillar/sail panel styling is probably a dead giveaway
Let us know the year, make, model and owner of this car!

- Time to reveal the answer: it is indeed the 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT owned by Fiero1Fan.
The Fiero used a unique space-frame chassis instead of a more traditional unibody or frame-on-body design. The car was then "skinned" with its plastic body panels. In fact, during the manufacturing process, the skin was one of the last things added to the car.
This particular Fiero is interesting in that it and its owner reside in Germany. Also, Fiero1Fan is turning this into a custom Fiero, featuring custom side scoops and a Ferrari F355 nose.
Check out his garage to see pictures of his project, as well as to see his other '88 Fiero GT.
Congrats to everyone who came up with the correct answer!

- 4DiffGBodies just made a guess, and got the make and model correct, but was off on the year...
Don't forget, the mystery car is always owed by someone on this site, so with a little detective work, you should be able to find the exact car and the photo used...

- The Car: 1988 Pontiac Fiero GT
The Owner: Fiero1Fan
The Name: The Lady
Corvairs and Fieros have a lot in common. They were both unusual cars made for a specific market by G.M. They both had some problems at first, but G.M. killed them off when they got it right. They were both attractive looking cars that were good at what they were designed to do. And their owners are rabidly devoted to them!

- Hey monkeewrench, still not there yet... jump ahead another decade and look to the sister manufacturer you still haven't mentioned... and don't think about the sister models of what you've been guessing, just sister manufacturer... the key clue is in the "skin" of the car...
- Jul 2, 2008 at 4:28 pm
- Aha!!!, gonna have to go with the Sister 1978 Olds Starfire. But then it could be the redheaded stepbrother, the 1978 Buick Skyhawk too...
-God I love this stuff...

- monkeewrench just made a guess, but it was wrong. The make is a sister make of the one you guessed though... give it another shot!
