Almost ready to drive...

By battmann

Yesterday I was able to make a ton or progress on the Camaro. First, I installed the newly repainted power steering pump, new aluminum power steering pulley and Zoops power steering bracket. The new bracket and pulley match the alternator so I'm pretty happy. We found out the B&M valve covers I have won't clear the polylocks on the rockers so I need to have a 1" spacer made. I'll probably just sandblast and repaint the old valve covers for now just to get the car running.
Next I cleaned up the engine bay and repainted it semi-flat black. It took forever to mask off the car to paint it, but turned out pretty good. I also painted the underside of the hood. There's a lot of rust on the inner fenders and core support so I'll have to replace those someday, but for now it looks a lot better than it did.
Lastly I installed my new rims and new BF Goodrich Radial T/A tires. I got the rims for free from my father-in-law. They have some surface rust, but hey they were free. The front rims are 14x6's with 225/60-14 tires and the rear rims are 15x8's with 295/50-15 tires. The car looks totally different now. I just think it looks awesome! I can't wait to drive this thing!
I probably have two whole days of work left on the car before it's on the road. The first day install the engine & tranny, wire it up and reinstall the exhaust. The second day change the tranny fluid, change rear end fluid, plumb fuel lines, plumb brake lines and install new brakes.
You can see more updated pics in the albums here.
A side note on the Trans Am - the alternator went this week so I ordered a new on from Summit Racing. I should get it today. Easy fix.

Lookin' good bro! Been there done that! Mine was a basket case and it took all of 3 years for me to get on the road. Your right you got a steal. I bought mine for $4500 and it was in as good a shape as yours. Mine is a true '71 Z28 Rally Sport. I see you have the Rally Sport it a Z or a RS or both?
