"Big Bertha" is renamed "Battle Wagon"

I've decided to call "Big Bertha" a new name, "Battle Wagon". It's been a real reliable vehicle, although it's old and beat up. It just turned over 129,000 mile this morning on the way to work. It's been so trustworthy in the past, but it's starting to act it's age. It needs new tires, bad. The heater/defroster fan works sometimes. I believe it's the fan resistor. It should be an easy fix, it's right there on top of the heater box when you open the hood. The exhaust is hung up with a coat hanger since our close call with the ditch last month. I'll try to patch the hole in the pipe and weld it back to the factory hanger. I hope that fixes that problem. The wipers are like the heater fan, they work when they want to. The squirters are like that too. The passenger side sprays fine, but the driver side acts like it's frozen or plugged. And sometimes the passenger side window needs a little help to go up and down. It broke loose from the track last summer and I urethaned it back in. It's about time for the driver window to do the same. Wait, it's not February yet! It has to get REALLY cold before that window acts up like that! Sometimes it freezes and won't go down, but that's only when I go to a drive-up window. Go figure! That little wing window has a latch that doesn't. Going down the road (especially when it's windy) it has the sound effect of a tornado! The front suspension has a sqeak and groan also. Bushings must be shot, because I know the worn out shocks wouldn't make that noise. I know it sounds like it's about ready for the junk yard, but I'm not though with it yet! If I had to pay somebody else to work on it, that would probably be true. But my labor is pretty much free. It's just having the time and place to do it that's a problem. I need to get out to the garage and compact some more stuff to make room to get it in. I planned on doing that this past fall, but I had my Father-in-law's Escort wagon in there welding up the rocker panels. I wanted to get more outlets wired in so I didn't have to run extension cords off two outlets. There's plenty of openings in the breaker box. I want to wire in my lights, too. There's a furnace tucked away in the far rear corner (that I've never seen) that I suppose goes with the fuel oil tank outside. I know the line comes in, but it just dead ends. It's not hooked to anything. I know next spring I'm going to tackle that garage so I can work in there! That's why I'm driving the van instead of our 3/4 Chevy 4x4. Last winter I struggled working on my Trans Am, which wasn't done until June! I still have the projects in the house to do. Jeez! This was supposed to be a blog about the van, but it turned into a listing of some of my "to-do" list!

Got good used tires on the rear Thursday, and they do make a difference.

The Battle Wagon started this morning (-14 in the driveway) when the Sport Trac wouldn't. My Trans Am started also.(-10 in the garage) How about that?
