Firebird hood to Trans am shaker hood

By 70Birdlover

Filed under: 1970 Pontiac Firebird (In need of name!!!)

Well, I have a Formula twin scoop hood on my 1970 Firebird right now, but i just bought a flat firebird hood. I also have a shaker scoop. I want to cut a hole in my flat hood so i can put the shaker on and have it pop through like the original trans am hood, but i don't know how to get the measurements, i need some kind of template or something. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know! Maybe you have a 70-76 trans am hood that you could make me a template of. I would appreciate any help.

Thats a good idea, except in my case. I'm making my own adjustable bracket to mount the shaker to my air filter, so I need to know the stock measurements!

mount the shaker scoop on (I must think you still have a carb)
the carb and take messurements from each fender and enduro
nose, messure 3/8'' to 1/2'' past the rubber seal on shaker scoop.
don't forget to subtract 1/4'' for hood gap betwean fenders and enduro nose. Transfer mes. to the hood you want to cut the hole
onto, if U R trying to save the paint use tan masking tape & cardboard as protective a cover!!! REMEMBER (BETTER TO
SMALL A HOLE THAN TO LARGE) you can allways cut more
if you don't cut enough. When you get it ''RIGHT'' get some 1/4''
ROUND STOCK metal and fabricate a lip with it so you don't
just have a UNFINISHED HOLE!!! Lip can go on TOP or BOTTEM
I prefer on top. P.S. you will need a WELDER & FABRICATION SKILL's for the lip and install, then body work and paint.
GOOD LUCK, don't rush it, messure TWICE !!!
