Maybe coming back! Again!

This march will make it 3 years since I took my truck to where I work. My boss and I were going to try to rebuild the transmission. We got it all torn apart and ordered a kit, but plans changed when the trans went out in our GMC Rally Van. The kit was used in that trans instead. We must've done something wr..wro...ahem, wrong. OK, said it done! We did something wrong. It went back together okay, but only had reverse and low gear. That van sat in the lot at work for 2 years until I broke down and got a trans from a salvage yard. But the S-10 still sits behind the shop. I've still got the trans torn apart and boxed up in the back of the cab and I've been kicking around the idea of taking some of the parts from the failed rebuild from the van trans and using them to put this one back together. The sprag was blown apart and another part with springs was all twisted and mangled. The steels and clutches looked decent. I guess it all comes back to whether or not the 4.3 is still good. I should try to get it running before I get too carried away with any transmission plans. So I was talking it over with my wife on the way home from grocery shopping, and she thought we were just going to get a used trans. I don't want to spend any money until I know if the engine is still good. I said if this worked, I would tear into the 700r4 that was is my V-8 S-10 and put that trans in my Nova when I built that car. It's getting that engine, so why not the trans too? It would still be a 4 speed trans, but it wouldn't be a stick. She liked that idea because she prefers not to drive stick. Time will tell! and so will the winter bills!
