New Mod! and vote for my next mod!

By MustangGT58266

Filed under: 2003 Ford Mustang (Stang)

well i just puchased a few things from americanmuscle.com! i puchased a 14 inch shorty antenna to replace my current 32 inch antenna. i also bought a 4.6 High Performance badge to replace the Ford badge opposite my GT badge on the trunk.

and the performance mod i bought were the BBK underdrive pulleys! my friend has em on his 04 gt and got 9.3 more RWHP on the dyno. so im going to try them.

ill update everyone on the performance when i install them! they should arrive on tuesday or wednesday and i should have them in, in a couple weeks.

Vote: budget= $500

1) SLP o/r x pipe w/ MIL's
2) SCT performance tuner
3) 70mm throttle body and throttle body spacer

I say go with the tuner it will help out get the most out of what you have already, fine tune, fine tune

Pulleys will work nicely. I suggest the SCT tuner as the next mod. I think you will get more gains from that than the TB or x-pipe.

I would get a dyno tune over a handheld. Ive been through the handheld tuners and they leave a lot to be desired. The X pipe would give you a nice gain by deleting all the cats, but you wont see much from a catback system other than better sound. The throttle body would give you a noticeable gain in throttle response.

My vote would be X pipe for sound and flow, and the TB for response. Keep the cash left over and wait to get a dyno tune.

Well, since I really haven't done ANY performance mods on my modern car (My Cobalt SS - you know, the one WITH fuel injection and all those electronic doodads), and neither of my cars have an exhaust where a crosspipe in the system would make any sense, I really don't have any input here except to figure out where you'll see the most "Bamg for your Buck" and take it from there. It seems to me that the intake and exhaust mods together would have more total effect than either one alone - If you increase airflow INTO the engine but not OUT of it, you'll still have a backpressure issue. At the same time, if the exhaust is freed up some but you aren't putting any more mixture through the engine due to the old intake system, the benefit wouldn't be as great, either. An internal combustion engine is just a glorified air pump, and the freer the air flows in AND out, the more efficient that pump will be. My guess would be that the performance tuner might be the way to go if you're planning on only one modification, since it can be used to optimize the car when you make any future mods as well as improving what you've got already.

If you haven't upgraded the exhaust,do so first.I have a friend who has the SLP set-up and it sounds great.Go with what you want.Make it your way. After all,it is your ride.

I vote for #1 first. I think #2 and #3 should be done as a combo because the throttle body may need to be worked to get optimum performance (witnessed that on Joe Elmore's Mustang on Horsepower TV).
