Question of the Day: What's the BEST car to come from Detroit?

By motortopia

Yesterday we heard your (and Barack Obama's) thoughts on the worst car to come from Detroit.

But today, we want to turn around and focus on the positive. What is the best car that an American automaker has ever churned out?

That's a pretty broad question.
Chevrolet Caprice from the 80's and early 90's were used by taxi fleets and police and were quite roomy and reliable. So was the Crown Vic from the early 90's.
So the answer all depends on your definition of "best".
Reliability? Performance? Comfort and Roominess?,Fuel efficiency? Price?

now there is a question that would start more fights like asking who has the prettiest wife. it all depends on fond memories, and ones family history with a certain make. i am a die hard pontiac fan. me and my family have a long history with pontiacs. if you cut me i bleed pontaic engine blue. i would defend the very honor of the arrowhead. but the true answer to that question is there is NO best car built from detroit. they are all the best. from the 20's cords and auburns to the 30's flathead fords, to the late 40's hudusons, to all the 50's chrome and fin cars, to the awesome 60's muscle cars, even the 70's had there great cars (remember smokey and the bandit every teenage wanted a black trans am and be the bandit) although the 70's were a dark time, then there is the modern explosion in preformance starting in the 80's (buick grandnational) and continueing on to today. the only thing i hope is that detroit keeps building great cars and wont be pressured to build bland gas saving rides because of the ridiculous gas prices. we have already lost 2 great marques in oldsmobile and plymouth with rumours that mercury maybe next. lets hope are great great grandchildern aren't talking about detroit best cars as if it was the passing of the dinosaurs.

checkeredflag image Easy. America's only Sports Car, the World Class Supercar, the Chevrolet Corvette Z06. Nowhere is there a better value for the money for a high performance car than a 'Vette. Period... That is, until next year, when an even more powerful Corvette arrives checkeredflag image

Tit for tat the Ford Model T was the best car to ever leave Detroit.

While it has never been proven that Henry Ford ever said, "You can paint it any color...," but the phrase has survived for 3/4 of a century and does indicate something about America's beloved Model T: its "steadfastness," its enduring and endearing "sameness." The first production Model T Ford was assembled at the Piquette Avenue Plant in Detroit on October 1, 1908. Over the next 19 years, Ford would build 15,000,000 automobiles with the Model "T" engine, the longest run of any single model apart from the Volkswagen Beetle. From 1908-1927, the Model T would endure with little change in its design. Henry Ford had succeeded in his quest to build a car for the masses.
I know that time has produced more sophiscated cars but are they really better then the model T, even today?
