Somebody explain this to me... Challenges
Oct 14, 2008 | Views: 410
OK, I kinda "get" why you guys do challenges... maybe it's a little like fantasy football or something like that...
I've voted a few... and I have to say... I vote honestly... I don't always vote in favor in every area of someone that's on my friends list vs. someone that's not... if one car is better under the hood... or the owner has put more effort into describing the car... or it just plain shows better... I vote in favor of the "better" of the two no matter who they belong to. Effort in describing or photographing the car goes a LONG way in my opinion... I also look at what resources the participants might have... if one of the challengers is a 17 year old that's probably working at Pizza Hut for a few bucks I take the time and effort into consideration... what did they do with the few bucks they have... etc.
I have one specific question.
1. how can I tell who initiated a challenge?
I wouldn't be afraid of a challenge... but I doubt i'd ever initiate one... maybe it's because i'm just not all that competitive... shoot... 90% of the shows I attend I don't even bother to get my car judged cause I just don't care that much hahaha...

- I can appreciate your viewpoint, I share most of the same, to put that little one on the hood just shows people that if you can't have fun with the car, why have it at all.
It is a car after all. A pretty darn good looking, special, hard-to-find collectable, but STILL a car.
I suscribe to the comfortable jeans theory, if you use it without babying it, chances are it will get damaged less, and when it eventually gets that door ding, it is just a car....
I would not buy a car I am afraid of driving, and heaven help me if it rains! OH!

- Thank you all for your great thoughts and comments.
John... I do have a couple of trophies... but they're usually a surprise... I attend the Trans Am Nationals and have done a number of other really large shows. I think I just don't like the pressure of preparing for judging. I enter the car so I can park it on the show grounds... and be a part... but I do it as more of a "show and shine" thing... I love cruise in's and more relaxed shows. I am the kind of person that will let people sit in my car and I don't freak out if little kids touch it... so fingerprints and bugs... not a great combo for judging hahahahaha... i've even gone so far as to put a little one on the hood for a photo... oh the horror

- I was explained by Torq that its just a virtual challenge, so I see it as really being sensless. now as for your car not being judge, I'll be happy to take it to shows and keep the first place trophies and funds, for the car is fantastic. I understand the your feelings about driving it, I feel the same about my 86 Vett, but I'm also proud of my car and enjoy seeing kids eyes light up when they look the car over. Try doing a good car show once and you see what I'm talking about...

- I don't participate in challenge voting. I have too much respect for both car enthusiast. I am sure both car enthusiasts in a challenge worked hard to get thier cars where they like them. And I know they both have a sense of pride that can be shattered from such a challenge. I like the car enthusiast community and that is the reason I am here. Judging between cars isn't. And I really like people too much to hurt anyone. JMHO.

- i'm with you, I don't get some of the challenges either, and ususaly don't look unless it's a friends request

- I agree with the majority of folks.......challenges are about who has more friends. It gets old being asked by some folks continually to come and bail there ego's out of the corner they've worked themselves into! Just my opinion.
By the way, speedinta is right.....PrettyBird, slow down!!!! lol

- I'm with you, I don't really see any point to it!
