Still Not Driving It

You know, batteries just aren't as good as advertised. The warranty sound good. And you'd think a local bussiness would stand up to it better than this. I bought the battery from L&M Fleet Supply in Grand Rapids in December 2010. I didn't drive the truck last winter or at all this summer. I went out to start it and the battery was dead as a rock! I put the charger on it (set at 10 amp) and charged it for 5 hours while I was working on the Escort wagon in the garage. It was still stone cold. I charged it some more the next day. Still dead! I pulled it out and headed to L&M for replacement. Was full replacement for 12 months then prorated after that. It ended up they wanted to charge me half the price of a new battery to replace this one under their warranty! I tried to tell them about my battery from Advance Auto I had in the Trans Am that sat there for 6 years and was dead as a rock. I put the charger on it overnight and it was right back to life! I asked what was wrong with their battery and warranty. They just repeated the half new price and said that was the best they could do. So sad. I'll never buy a battery from them again! I'm not sure I'd buy anything from them! Piss me off and that's what happens! I didn't go back to Sears for 9 years after I had to fight to get my air compressor fixed under warranty! That was the first time it blew up! I rebuilt it twice since then. I think it's about ready to go again. Guess where I won't buy a new one from? Neither Sears or L&M! Anyway, back to the battery story. I pulled the battery out of the Grand Am sitting beside our garage since 2009 and put the charger on it for a couple hours. It started taking a charge. Cranked over a few times but not enough to start "Old Blue". I'll throw the charger on when we leave for church and give it a try after church. I bet that battery from Car Qwest will do it!

I get the same story all over the place. I'm starting to think that you should just buy the cheapest piece of crap you can get and just buy another when it goes bad! Phooey on warranties!

I bought a battery from Napa once and it died within about a year. They gave me the same story, had to buy another one with a prorated discount for the bad one. That was about 10 years ago and haven't stepped into a Napa store since. They don't seem to realize what such policies cost them in the long run. Or maybe there are too many bad batteries to make it feasible to stand behind them.
