What to Cruise For

By desoto

Hey gang!
I would love some input from my Motorpotia Friends. I have promoted several car show and cruise-ins in the past but have always wanted to do a modified “Poker Run” but my ideas keep circling. So many people don’t drive their vehicles together any more in this area, they drive to the show and maybe some place after but what if the event was all about driving and sight seeing? A few years back I joined up with the local PT Cruiser clubs that invaded our local 50’s diner – 52 PT’s , then at the magical time other clubs rolled in and we all- 102 PT’s cruised to Silver Falls Park for desert. Would you please give me your idea of what You would find fun.

One idea is to have an Amazing Race game – what would you enjoy?

Another idea is to have a poker run where people purchase items for a charity at designated stops. At the end if the run their individual grocery bag contents will be added up and the one that closely matches the control bag gets a prize. Several prizes would need to be given out also…..

What’s your idea?

Thanks,
Lee

Hey Lee,

I'm thinking you might want to check out how people and clubs do a car rally. It's kind of like a scavenger hunt. Cars have to drive a specific route following directions given to them at the beginning. I think there are prizes for completing the route.

Here's just one link from on the web:

I'm sure you can find lots more to fill in the blanks that this one leaves behind.

Let me know how it goes! Best of luck to you.

There are a lot of ways to run a cruise to have fun. A different way to do the poker run is to give each driver 5 cards, a map and clues to where envelopes containing a few cards each can be found. Each driver may exchange cards to try to improve their poker hand. At the end of the cruise the best hand wins. A road ralley with clues to find items is also a fun way to enjoy a drive. Each driver is given clues and a map like the poker run. They write down the answer to the clues and the most correct answers win. As an example we had a clue for a "flying mail" box and along the road we found a mail box shaped like a bi-plane. This rally can be done without the driver stopping or getting out of their cars depending on what they are required to find.
