Head to Head

About “Blue”

Here's my 1964 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia coupe. Its a three owner car with complete documentation that includes the original invoice, sales order, salesman's business card, window sticker and more.

I've removed some of the original parts for a future restoration back to stock. I plan to do a complete restoration, but for now I'm having fun going fast.

About “427HISS”

Hello, this is my 1966 Ford 427 Shelby Cobra (replica)
I actually bought the engine before I bought the replica kit. My Aunt lives in Vegas and her neighbor is a Top Gun Pilot for the Navy. He knows Carroll Shelby and he asked if I wanted a tour at Mr. Shelby's new shop and show room, I of course said YES !
I met Mr. Shelby for only 5 minutes but, at least I got to meet such a great man and a icon of racing. He asked what I wanted to purchase, I replied jokingly, "a engine". He showed me 5 and said, "pick one". I about fainted. He raced these engines in 1967. I looked them over and had one shipped home. I left it stock for 3 years but rebuilt it in 2003. It now had 563 HP at the wheels. Weighs 2400 lbs.

Best 1/4 mile- 10.38 at 134 mph.
Top speed- 164 mph at The Kansas Motor Speedway.

I was able to do all of the car except the engine machining and a great friend helped me assemble it.

I custom mixed the blue and added pearl to the white stripes. I also made several aluminum parts on the car. (see photo's)

I've built other cars over the years but, my Cobra is just a kick in the pants fun ! Like a skate board on wheels.

I love to go to shows with family, friends and talk to other owners of their cars. I let most people, including children, sit in the car and sometimes, let them fire up the engine. That's what shows are all about, the sharing and comradely with others. Trophy's are fine but I enjoy the time spent with car enthusiasts the most.

A friend and I are planning on starting car shows with no awards, any vehicle can enter, free to the public and just have a great time ! Hopefully we can accomplish this.

I have a long,.... story from my first show. It's about the "Jerry Lewis Telethon for Muscle Dystrophy". I took a young man that is the "Ambassador for MS" for a ride in the Car. "My favorite of all time", he said. Sadly, he succumbed to the disease 4 months later. All of what happened is a great memory I'll have forever, and no trophy in the world can make me feel better than sharing the love of car's and time spent with, with Brian.

Thank you,
Kevin

Specs for “Blue”

The current engine displaces 2054cc's. Best recorded elasped time in the quarter mile is 13.055 @ 104mph with a "line-lok" delayed 1.79 60' time. The car now 60 ft's in the 1.5 range making this combo a solid 12.8's car.

Displacement: 2054 cc's
- 74mm Tony Mance Welded Stroker Crankshaft
- wedgemated, 12 lbs 200mm flywheel
- Scat 5.400" I-Beam connecting rods
- Mahle 94mm Pistons and Cylinders
- Vintage (original) Lonnie Reed Wedge Port cylinder heads.
42x37.5 valves, dual springs, 10.9 to 1 Compression
- Engle FK10 cam (310 adv. degrees duration x .540" valve lift with 1.4 Autocraft ratio rockers).
- Steel on steel straight cut cam gears
- Italian Weber 48 IDA carbs, 42mm venturis
- Gene Berg 1 3/4" merged header with custom 2 1/2"
Flowmaster muffler
- Full MSD Ignition, 2-step, 6AL box, billet distributor, blaster
coil, MSD plug wires.
- Custom-fabricated VW 40hp fan housing converted to a
later model dog house cooler set up.

This engine combo was built for the street. Future plans are to reassemble the Beetle's street/strip combo which displaces 2332cc's. With higher compression, bigger carbs, and a cam change, the combo should produce about 240hp. This larger and more powerful engine should propell the Ghia into 11 second quarter mile times.
