Raced it for 7 years. Fremont drag strip closed so i made it streetable.
About “#Old School '69#”
Well, Here is my life's dream. I have wanted a GTO ever since I was 5, and my brother had a '69 Black Hardtop. I remember the first time I was in his GTO, what song was playing on his 8-track, (Deep Purple-Highway Star) and being so little that I couldn't see over the dashboard, but only could see the tree tops whizzing by me! I was hooked! With my brother being somewhat older than me, (12 years) I always followed him with his heavy interest in cars. He ended up becoming a mechanic, and I ended up following in his footsteps somewhat... doing almost the same. (I am an Engineer, but have always worked on my own cars) I drove my first car- My Mom's 72 Delta 88- at 12!
I owned my first car at 15, a 73 Charger that was decent. since then I have had many a car (my GTO is #61, yes I count them) But always looked back to the days of riding in the GTO when I was 5. It's strange, I still even remember the smell of the car. I knew I needed to get one, no matter the cost.So I found her on Ebay, rotten to the core, grass growing up through the quarter panels and floors. With a little help and a lot of time in my garage, she is done. Ready to hit the streets like she was new. She's got a 400, with a 400 tranny, Posi rear, Edelbrock dominator intake, Holley 650 4BBl, 2-1/2 inch stainless dual exhaust front to back from Pypes Exhaust. I did all the work on her myself except for paint. She is ready to hit the streets this spring after being laid up for almost 20 years! I don't have to tell you that I play Deep purple incessantly around the car, do I? My brother, who now lives in Florida, has not been up to see the car since it's been completed, but he's seen it on Motortopia, and really likes what I have done with it. It has been a long time for me, doing 18 hour shifts on the car at a shot at times. I really would like to thank all of you who have complimented the car, and who have also voted for me in my challenges. It means a lot to me. I enjoy going to the car shows and like soaking in everyones face as they look her over.
I call her "Big Red" in honor of my Mother who passed away a few years ago. It was she who got us into the whole race car/classic thing, as she was never afraid to step on the pedal and race a car here or there. Our Dad never drove, and did not have a drivers license. ~ Big Red was her CB handle...

Specs for “Baby”
Carrys a 450hp 396, Art Carr manual turbo 400, 1970 Chevelle 12 bolt posi w/ 373's, subframe connectors, aluminum body mounts, moroso sway bars and suspension system. 12 second quarter mile, top speed so far 167mph at 6,800 rpm and it was riding smooth. And its a 2bolt motor turning those rpm!!! Still in car after 20 years of service..
AND ITS A CHEVY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
