About “Dad's Corvette”
First, I have to say THIS IS NOT A PICTURE OF THE ACTUAL CAR! A friend had this picture posted in a car show album, but it looks nearly identical to the way Dad's car did (except that Dad's car had a hood scoop and a white stripe) before it was destroyed in a house fire when I was about 7 years old.
This is the car that started my interest in cars in the first place. I'd lie on my back under the car with him and try to help with whatever he was doing with it. He had me hand tools to him (usually, the WRONG tools!), but ha wouldn't let me actually do any of the mechanical work. I did help him keep it clean, washing the sides and dusting the interior.
About “Project”
My current project. I bought the car for $800. It was painted primer gray on top of the original B5 blue. It has a 318 small block and automatic trans. I bored the block 30 over and filled it with Speed Pro's forged pistons. The crank had to be turned 10 thousandths and everything was balanced to within a tenth of a gram. The cam is a small RV type for the time being ( later plan on installing a pair of R/T heads and bump the cam up to a 284/284 duration with a .484 lift "Purple Cam") I also have full length headers and 3" exhaust. The intake and carb (Thermoquad) were originaly from a '78 Aspen 360 and now replace the 2bbl that my car originaly came with. 150 rear wheel horsepower was from the factory, now has about 300 (no dyno results yet). With the R/T heads and hot cam, it should make about 400 rear wheel horses (hopefully). My dreams for this car are to drop in a new 6.1L SRT8 Hemi, Tremec trans, AlterKation front-end, 4-link Moser60 rear with 3.92 gears and disc brakes all around, and 18 inch wheels in front and 19s in the rear (Foose?). I need about $50,000 more to finish my baby. I'll gladly accept any donations. Just kiding HaHaHa. I had an accident in 2007, and now I'm trying to get her back into shape. To the best of my memory, it had the usual Corvette stuff:
V-8, 4-speed stick, AM/FM radio, etc. As far as 0-60 and 1/4 mile times go, I didn't care! All I know is it was the most thrilling ride a young girl could have ever asked for. After this Vette, no car with a solid roof would do for me!
