Head to Head

About “Rare Bird”

To much story behind this car. It's been in the family all it's life, my grandfather was the 1st owner, I am the second. Very rare car. Original untouched paint, and interior. Less then 72K miles. Numbers matching. Show quality.

About “Formula”

The car was purchased in Texas in 1977 by my father to have a car for the kids to drive. The car was quickly nicknamed “The Kids Toy”. A few modifications were done, the Rally II wheels were exchanged for turbine mags, and side pipes were added. A custom paint job with murals on the hood scoops and pearl white was airbrushed down the sides. (Hey, it was the 70’s.) It even won a few car shows.

I purchased the car from him a couple of years later. It went from Texas to California then sat in storage for 10 years. It was moved to Nebraska and sat for another 7 years waiting to build up the Firebird Restoration Fund.

Frame off restoration took 5 years but came out looking good. For 2009 it’s leading a sheltered life. The plan is to limit its road time for a year. It was trailered to 15 shows, 6 were national shows and the rest were local area shows. Now it can be driven a little more.

Specs for “Rare Bird”

Well this is one of 687 Ram Air III cars that where produced in 1970, extremely rare when you consider there are more 67 GT500's and Hemi Cuda's roaming the streets then these.

6.6 litre 400 Cubic Inch Engine put out 360hp, and 470 pounds of torque. 0-60 is done in 5.4 seconds, and quarter miles comes up at 13.50, at least it did when it was stock, now I have no idea what it would pull. But nothing faster then a 13.20 I would assume.

Specs for “Formula”

This is an all stock car that came with:

400 - factory rated at 300 hp
Muncie CR 4 speed
