1974 Chevrolet Chevelle Malibu Classic
1979 Pontiac Firebird Redbird
Head to Head
I got this car in the autumn of 1983. I was actually trying to get my uncle's '75 Monte Carlo, but he wouldn't sell it to me because he said it had too many problems. so I kept looking. Mom found this car! Wasn't exactly what I was looking for, but if Mom thought it was cool, I HAD to have it! It needed a lot of interior work and had some (a lot) of rust bubbling out on the bottom of the doors and some on the front parts of the 1/4's. My Uncle Raymond helped me with the bodywork and sprayed the white stripes along the bottom. That was just the beginning of the project ahead of me. I spent the next 6 years learning how to work on cars by basically tearing this one apart and replacing or modifying every piece as I went. I was getting it close to what I wanted it to be when I had my girl-friend run out on me. I was stupid enough to go out looking for her at midnight on a Saturday. A drunk driver found his way into the passenger side, spinning me into oncoming traffic, then leaving the scene! My baby was done for. It was crushed like a can and bent like a banana. I had another '74 that was traded off for another car. I had a chance to buy a really nice '73 from a friend until he left the gas cap off and the car caught fire. I'd like to find another someday!
1979 Firebird Esprit Redbird Edition. I purchaced this car in 1998 from a man at the Petit Jean Mountian Car Show
in Morrilton AR. It is featured in Marc Cranswick's Book Firebird the Auto-Biography (page 100). It has always been stored indoors. It gets alot of looks wherever I go in it.

Bought it with a 350 that had a truck 4 bolt main block. That went bad on me to be replaced with a 307 from a '72 Nova, which was replaced with a 305 (temporarily) until I got another 350 built for it. The 305 was bad pretty much from the beginning. so I put new bearings in the 307 and put it back in waiting on the 350. Original rear-end was changed out because of a twisted or bent axel. Had Black-Jack headers, turbo mufflers, dual 2-1/2" exhaust out the rear

I was told that the rear window louvers were added when the car was purchaced new... I like them, so they stay. I have seen a lot of the three piece rear louvers, but haven't seen any just like these.
