About “The BEAST”
Isn't it funny how, when you're not even looking for a car, one comes along that you just HAVE to buy? That's the way it was last week. I was out on a parts run for the shop and saw this monster for sale at a local service station/car wash. It was love at first sight, even though I've never even considered a truck like this before! I justified it by putting it in my shop's name and telling myself that it would become the new shop truck..... Yeah, right!
About “The Family Truckster”
My wife's ride. She loves the car's size and high driving position, and that it's virtually impossible for her to get stuck in the snow in it. I like regular cars and, of course, sports cars better, but this is what she wanted. When my first Grand Prix Comp-G was totalled, the Tahoe served as our sole family car and I got my Boxster to replace the Pontiac. Since our kids spend most of the year away at college and rarely go anywhere with us anyhow when they're home, that worked out pretty well. As it is, the two of us used the Tahoe for a couple of vacations where we needed to take more luggage than the Boxster could handle (i.e. more than an overnight bag each!). It IS nice to be able to see over much of the traffic after spending a lot of time in a low car like my Porsche. This is an SUV with serious scoot under the hood. The big 6.2L V-8 sure gets the job done, but the gas mileage SUCKS! The best tank we've ever gotten out of the thing was 17.5 mpg. The ride is Cadillac soft, but you'd never mistake it for a sport sedan in the handling department.
Specs for “The BEAST”
I haven't even had it long enough to know for sure what it has, what company made the parts, who installed them, or when. All I know is that it sounds downright WICKED, has a better ride than I would have guessed, and goes like a scalded cat! I don't know for sure what all's been done to it's 454 cid big block engine, but it's a MONSTER!
