    Figured I would start a build/progress thread for my 87 mustang coupe.

    Here's a pic of how it looked right after buying it in Nov 07. Not sure why we wasted 4 hours trying to buff the paint but that brought out the 1st name for the car. Polished Turd.

    Next came the original parts list.
    * Cobreau A4 seats
    *Explorer/Cobra upper and lower intake
    *65mm BBK throttle body
    *Pypes shorty headers & x-pipe
    *SLP loud mouth exhaust dumped over axle
    *03 cobra front control arms
    *Eibach strut/shock/spring kit
    *Roush lower rear control arms
    *Poly upper bushings with the stock arms
    *Maximum motorsports full length weld in subframe connectors
    *03 cobra front 5 lug swap
    *94 GT 8.8 rear end
    *93 cobra mater cylinder and brake booster
    *New black carpet
    *Dyed black interior panels
    *Hurst short throw shifter
    *Black fr500 wheels
    *nitto 555 tires

    Ends up the 94-04 backspace didn't work with fenders, so I picked up a set of 99-04 saleens with 05+ mustang backspace to clear.

    There was still a little rubbing but was able to get the last little bit needed by loosening the fender bolts and pulling them out.

    At this point I thought it might be nice to paint the car. The before pics make it look much nicer than it really was. Hind sight being 20/20, I wish we hadn't messed with it but that's easy to say now.

    I've tried to forget the different paint schemes and what ended up being wasted $. All I know is that I have no clue how to properly paint a car.

    After losing a couple years to having a daughter and moving, the car finally made it to the track. Overall the car was ok. It tried to over heat, the springs were crap and made the car fell unstable, and the exhaust almost burnt through the gas tank and feed line. It was still nice to finally get the car out on the track.

    After the 1st time out on the track, I came home with a list of things to upgrade.
    Using the video to guestimate my lap times, my best was a 2:37

    * Oil cooler
    * H&R race springs (rear only at this point)
    * Custom side exhaust
    * Radiator flush
    * Replace water and oil temp gauges, wires touched the header and burnt through
    * Front sway bar bushings

    I also took the time to somewhat make the car one color again.

    With everything installed it was time for another weekend at VIR. This was my first time on track during a mostly rainy weekend. While dry would have been nice, I did learn a lot about the track and car control.

    Using Harry's LapTimer to get times, my best lap was a 2:38. My times could have been a bit better but with the amount of rain that weekend, I didn't push the car very hard down the straights or through the uphill esses.
