A surgeon in Baton Rouge, LA, unknowingly recreated part of an episode of super-popular driving plan “Top Gear” by beating traffic in a novel way. En route to a surgery, she was able to avoid stop-and-go traffic using a child's bike. Have you been looking to buy or sell a used or new truck? If this seems like you, look at the inventory at CarDealExpert.com!
Throwing in a helmet
BBC’s “Top Gear” show has a lot of fans, and most supporters remember the episodes where different modes of transportation are pitted against each other in a race. One episode had a race across London with a vehicle, a boat, a cycle, and public transportation. Typically, the car is a pretty nice sports car.

Dr. Catherine Baucom, a doctor in LA, according to AutoBlog, recently did something comparable, in that she bypassed completely stuck traffic by riding a children's bicycle to arrive on-time at a surgery she was due to perform. She beat the traffic and even got the pink “Princess” helmet thrown in as a reward.
Large traffic jam
Catherine Baucom rode the cycle to work due to a traffic jam brought on by a multi-vehicle accident, according to the Huffington Post. It was almost tragic since a vehicle rolled over and brought on a semi-truck to get rear-ended by another 18-wheeler. The semi-truck had all kinds of flammable liquids in it. The other truck had beer in it.
There was a leak in the truck that was rear-ended, according to WMBF. The isobutene coming out of the truck was sealed in and the excess burned off. The good news is that the beer in the second truck was not hurt at all.
Dr. Baucom wound up arriving on time to the surgical procedure with a police escort. They noticed her riding on the small cycle and gave her an escort to get her there promptly. Baucom noticed the traffic and pulled off the freeway to a friend’s house where she asked to borrow a bike. The child’s bike was the only one available, so that was what she took.
Other instances
The car is unmatched for convenience; with no departure/arrival schedule, one can hop in and get heading out to the highway. This is not true, as Catherine Baucom demonstrated, when confronted by traffic. Some other examples have proved the same. Bikes also do not require a loan, unlike a car which needs a bank auto loan to purchase. Perhaps urban commuters are better off visiting a BMX dealer instead of BMW.
A lot of commuters switched to bicycles, skates and other forms of transportation last year when a busy section of the Los Angeles freeway was closed for a weekend, called “Carmageddon.” There was even a race across the city in the different transportations. The cyclists did best in the race with a 1 hour and 34 minute time, but it only beat public transportation by 10 minutes. The roller blades took 66 minutes longer than the cyclists and the plane took 84 minutes longer.
There have been many other challenges like this where a bike and car are going against each other in a race. They both win in different instances. The bike won in a race in Florida last year. It beat the car by 25 minutes.
