OUR CLUBS SHOW TILL THIS YEAR HAD A BURNOUT CONTEST ON THE CITY STREET IN FERRIDAY LA. BUT AFTER GOING BACK AND REVIEWING FILMS WE WERE VERY LUCKY NO ONE WAS HURT.
SO WE MOVED THE BURN OUT CONTEST TO THE PARK IN VIDALIA LA WHERE THE CARS ARE DOWN A HILL FROM THE CROWD AND BEHIND A CEMENT BARRER AT THE TOP OF THE HILL.
ACTUALLY HAD BIGGER CROWDS THIS YEAR BECAUSE PEOPLE FELT SAFE AND IT WAS A LOT SAFER.MONEY CAN'T BUY LOVE, BUT IT CAN BUY LOADS OF HORSE POWER

All,
Would somebody mind filling those of us who weren't in Tennessee in on what the heck tragedy occurred? I've read this forum topic as well as "Tragedy In Tnn" and all I can possibly glean from what's being said is that somebody died, a drag car was involved, something about a burnout contest, and nobody seems to know anything. Little help, please?

there was a parade in tenn. and it had a lot of hot rods in it and they were letting them burnout but some one let in a funny car and when it did a burnout the driver lost controll and crashed into the crowds that were lineing the streets and several people were killed includeing children
it was all over the news for a short while butwe never found out what became of it.MONEY CAN'T BUY LOVE, BUT IT CAN BUY LOADS OF HORSE POWER

Thanks for getting me up to speed. I miss out on a lot of the news I normally wouldn't because I'm in Korea. Hopefully those responsible get what's coming to them. I am fimiliar with the group who puts this show and and the people involved. It was a traggic "AccidenT" Not going to go into details, but the story has NO ending. It will however, change the way shows and burnout contests will be and should be conducted. the people involved with the car show have been devistated and are a good group of people who raise alot of money for children all over the country every year. They sponsor around 30 shows a year. We ran into them at a show a few weeks ago and they are still overcome with sorrow. I know these folks and they would have never did anything that would have jeopardized the lives of anyone at their show, and especially children. The incident tragically took the lives of 5 very young people. Hopefully, we all will learn from this tragedy.
For those of you who are familiar with the story and have changed the way these are conducted,
if you need helpto make changes, i can help you think of measures to take to keep this from happening ever again. We as the authorities and the enthusiasts need to assume the responsability to insure all participants and spectators at our events are kept out of harms way.

yes this was a tragic day for all car people and were not trying to put blame on any one this seemed to be a series of events that went wrong that day and i hope we all learned from this and yes we changed several things about our clubs burnout competition because the same accident could have happened to our club. and our hearts go out to all those involved and we hope the comunity, clubs, and victums families can over come this and some how understand that this one event probably saved lives all across this country. and our prayers are with you all.MONEY CAN'T BUY LOVE, BUT IT CAN BUY LOADS OF HORSE POWER

This is a shock to me, I have never been to a show that the burnouts where done on the streets of the show. I have been to a couple tha the show leaders allowed the motorcycles to do burnouts and thought that was dangerous.The need for is growing and spring is time to bring out the BARR"S AM for the shake down run, hope all of you are ready as I am.

I fully understand noone was passing blame, it was a series of things gone wrong. Each small in their own respect, but in whole, it was a dissaster. This was done every year for the past several and an event that has been televised by shows viewed on Spike. Although it was done on a roadway, the road was closed and traffic was directed by officials. Koodos for you taking steps to insure the likley hood of this happening is less now at your event.MattP
