The Ford and Stang Racing group has been sending me all kinds of messages about voting for the Ford or Mustang so I posted this over there. It will probably piss some people off but I stand by it. What do you guys think about it?

Instead of sending out a letter to every member getting them to vote for the Ford why don't people on this site actually start voting for the car with the best performance and style. Perfect example is the Trans Am and Mach 1. The T/A is obviously going to win performance as the Mach only has 4 mods. The Mach also has no exterior mods for the style category. I'm a die hard Mustang fanatic but I see so many people getting mad about the F-body owners teaming up in the challenges but yet alot of people in the Ford groups do the same thing. I just wish people would vote for the best car. Hell I voted against myself before b/c I didn't have the near performance parts of the other car.
I'm not trying to piss people off but voting the way people are now isn't right and the challenges are becoming more and more pointless. Just my .02

For the most part, I agree. Of course, if you're a big Mustang fan, you're going to be biased to some extent because you like Mustangs better overall, which means you probably like the way a stock Mustang looks over even a well-executed 80's Monte Carlo or something. And, you can more easily justify choosing the Mustang for performance because of the overall package over a drag-prepped 35-swapped S10 or something.

So, I agree that if it's something like a stock '95 V6 Mustang that's really beat up versus a pristine WS6 T/A, it's kinda silly for it the Mustang to win the challenge, but there are people who honestly will like the Mustang more, and so that's how they vote.

So, I agree... but I also understand why to some people, the results may seem ridiculous, when to other people, they make perfect sense. Hopefully this made some sense as well biggrin image

I understand where you are coming from for sure. It is near impossible to be completely unbiased. I was just getting tired of seeing messages from the group that said this...

"Help this ford owner out..this challenge is really close."
    or
"your fellow ford owners need your help....so please vote..lets so those chevys, dodges, and imports that ford is on top.."

What really got me was a Trans Am vs. Mach 1 where the Mach suddenly got like 50-100 votes in one day b/c the group sent a message to every member. The Mach was completely stock except for three mods. I guess it can never be completely fair when instead of unbiased judges(sort of like a car show), everyone can vote.

Yeah, there's a lot of weird stuff that goes on in Challenges. I mean, the guy with the most wins this month has 70-something wins with a virtually stock 80's Monte Carlo and a virtually stock 80's Camaro.

I agree 100%. The fact remains is performance is only 1 point....And even at that performance isnt dictated by what kind of performance. Is it how it performs hauling stuff?...0-60?..Handeling????...Top speed????

Regardless...Even if I give the TA the performance point..The rest of the points would go to the Mach 1..Because I like that car better..I think performance should be based on overall performance not just 1/4 mile.

So even being ultra fair.....The mach gets 3 points by me

This is the only part of the site that I do dislike...For me its a car show here, respect the rides and such...But to have challanges and just get a bunch of people to vote for you, well you must not like your car that much to start with is senseless. You can se it with challanges also, some get 15 votes others 70...just kinda funny.

The other site I frequent, Rank My Ride, has been around since '03? and they have battles as well. Today it is 100% a popularity contest ( no joke - they all agree ). I was hoping Motortopia didn't turn into this, but there really is no stopping it. I made a suggestion on Gotstang.com awhile ago about judged battles, and they've incorporated it well. I also ran some judged battles on Rank My Ride as well, and they were also accurate.

You can only use the challenge system as a game - not as a reflection of how the public views your ride. wink image

If people would uese an unbiased opinion about their own rides before telling everyone mine is the best because of this and I did this to the motor and such maybe they would be more fair to another ride they are challenging. I know what is wrong with my ride besides not running, having rust spots, needing paint, decals, stripes, rear spoiler and my front right tire aired up. I am willing to see how people will judge my ride and if they can use an unbiased-opinionated observation about it will be a plus. I have to agree with what all of you have said.
