    I am looking at my options to put some cylinder heads on my small block 350.

    It is a 1970 Chevy Camaro if that give you any idea. I have no idea what to look at etc. I have been on craigslist and there seem to be a few options out there.

    If you are looking for a cast iron head there are many out there that are early vintage heads that are good ones for the Camaro. I had 487X heads on my Camaro and on my 4x4 both and those were off the Vette's. Now everybody knows that the double hump heads or otherwise known as the camel hump heads are good cast iron heads too. The downfall to many of these heads I am listing is that they need hardened seats installed in them for the unleaded fuel. This includes 040, 041, 441, 186, 461, 461x, 462, 292, 881 (70's head), 186, 187, 742, 492 ( probably correct for the Camaro), same as the 3873414 which was on the 370 HP LT1 in 1970, 041x, 291, and 3998916 which were off the 72-75 LT1 motors and had screw in studs from the factory. Valve size varied 2.02 to 2.94 and the cc were from 63.3 to 75. So be careful which heads you are thinking on. There was also a set of 3917292 heads that were factory on the 302 Z-28 Camaros that were 2.02/1.6 . All my information was from this web site. http://www.ji...eadchart.html

    One thing to consider is that if you are wanting to run a 64cc head or a 76cc head or even something in between. You would have to figure out what you have for pistons to see how it changes your compression in the motor. If you get over 11 to 1 you are having to run either premium fuel in the 92 octane range or use octane boosters. Otherwise maybe even mixing some racing gas to your fuel. That does get expensive. If you are under that you can run the cheaper fuels carefully with the right timing if over 10.5 to 1 and 10 to 1 or less you don't have to be so picky. If you have a flat top piston with 64cc heads it may make them around 10.0 to 10.3 to 1 compression where as if you use a 76cc head it could drop down to 8.3 to 8.8 to 1 compression depending on head gasket, bore, valve reliefs, etc... If I use 76cc heads I try to get a dome about .275 to bump the compression up to @ 10.8 to 1 for a good street motor.
    One option is aluminum but there are so many to choose from. If I were to rebuild a cast iron set I would look into buying a nice pair of aluminum heads I seen some first hand from Pro Comp that are under $500 on E-bay with 2.02/1.6 valves, complete. They are nice looking heads for the price and if the flow numbers are not elevated a bunch they would be a great candidate for any street motor. I know one guy that bought a pair and another wanting to buy a pair.

    I guess the best way I can help is to have you send me a message or something letting me know what type of heads you are thinking about using. Aluminunm or cast. There are many gains to the aftermarket heads these days with a lot of research and development. That way I can narrow down what would be best for you dollar !! Especially since restoring a cast used pair of early heads can get really expensive anymore. Just a valve job here is $250 or more. Not including cleaning, checking for cracks, springs, guides, retainers, locks, yada yada yada.
