It seems that for each solution comes a new set of problems. In the end, challenges are what they are. They are popular for many, and can be entertaining. They can easily be abused too, and it's not simple to police.
lets make it a democracy then. people run for judge, the people vote on them, and if people deem them unfair they get the boot

#14 Jul 25, 2008 at 3:26 amWay too much to take in on this topic, so if this was already mentioned then forgive. The thing I keep seeing everyone talking about is whiners and group voting. I realized along time ago that only those in groups have a chance of winning and only those new to the site, that haven't learned the 'rules', are the whiners. I could care a less about the challenges section of this site, it's not why I come here, but since the groups are going to rule this feature then I think you guys should set some polices within your groups on how to handle newbies. For a while every time someone new joined the site it seem they got bombarded with challenges from all of the groups, and even though it's a game, when their car loses by such a drastic amount it does become upsetting and they're bound to complain. I say if you want to partake in the challenges then keep it only between the groups, give the newbies some time to adjust to the site and possibly joining a group or two before ganging up on them. And by now everyone should know how to turn off the challenge feature on their garage, if not ask and I'm sure a lot of people would be glad to assist...otherwise simply decline the challenge request.

#15 Jul 27, 2008 at 11:19 amwell all i'm trying to say is, i put hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars in my cars, and having them get beat by almost 90% of the vote from stock cars that people have never even looked under the hood of is discouraging no matter how many times it happens

I think you should have a group challenge section, you can only challenge or be challenged if your in a group. the group should not be any larger then say 20 or 30
people per group you must prove you own your ride or you cant join the group.
that way if you dont want to play the game, dont join a group and maybe have a point
spread. (something like that other site ) oh yea one more thing you can only vote
if your in a group and only be in one group at a time if you leave you have to wait 30 days to join an other!

#19 Jul 28, 2008 at 8:49 pmChallenges would be awesome if the group mentality didn't exist, and the people honestly voted on the cars themselves, just as you would at a car show. You don't size up the car owner and vote by who he knows. That is what the intention was when it was designed.
Its funny you put it like that cause I brought my truck for a show on Oahu and as soon as the judges found out I was from Kauai, I didnt even place, I got beat out by a truck that looked liked it wasnt washed in 2 months and another that was lowered with spinning hubcaps!
On another note when I took my truck to Maui for a show I took 1st in full size and best of show BUT.............. the judges at that show were from the mainland and wernt biased to locals because they were from the mainland.
My point is that people will usually take care of who they know over who they dont, thats what friendship usually boils down to.
#20 Jul 28, 2008 at 10:48 pmI didn't know that groups were for voting challenges I Thought groups were for people of the same taste in cars could get together in forums and talk about their cars and learn info from other members and things like that.
I joined a challenge group to learn their side of the challenges and what i learned was that no one else votes on the challenges. there is about 40 people on here that vote regularly and they control all the challenges.
What happens is when some one joins they are bombarded by challenges from these 40 people with about 5 cars apiece and they accept challenges they think they should win and two days latter they are getting their ass kicked in all challenges
so they quit.
they get gun shy and wont accept any challenges from anyone. they would like to compete but they feel the rules aren't fair. and as long as this is allowed to happen their not fair.
the other problem i see is that when they accept a challenge they only vote on their challenge and no one else's if they do start voting on all the challenges then the challenge group invites them in and recruits them and they emediately begin winning and the group has a new member
thats why i say that people should have to vote on a certain number of challenges before they can accept a challenge this would force people to vote and would lead to a leveler playing field
if someone joins and gets hit with 5 challenges right off the bat then they have to vote on 10 challenge for each one they want to accept then thats 50 votes out there to help overcome the 40 votes from the group
and if you do this i believe a lot oi the people that want to challenge but wont because of the groups will go back to challenging thus adding more votes to help level the playing field till the challenge groups finally leave or break up.
I went to a car show in Ruston La. this summer in all i spent over $300.00 by time i was back home and i didn't mind not winning but there were a lot of great cars there that didn't win because of the good ole boy judging and picking all their friends cars if you ever go to a show like that then you want go back. right now that is what we have her on motortopia is good ole boys voting all their friends and passing over some really great cars.
The show our club puts on has drive through judging and the same judges judge all cars entered into the show in two days i'm president of the club and i don't know any of the judges we have one couple responsible for bringing in the judges from out of town and putting them up in a motel away from the car people
we do not enter our club cars in the show we don't want someone driveing all the way from texas in a hot rod to come to our show just to have a local car win i promise you that won't happen.
We try to be as fair as we can on judging and its an open show just like on here cars trucks bikes hot rods all years and makes in all we give out over 150 trophy's but we have people coming back year after year and some have past show winners that don't even get their cars judged because they just like coming to our show because there's no bickering about the judges or anything they always have a good time
this is what motortopia has to do is get control of the good ole boys and replace them with some sort of fair playing field and get the people back involved in challenges.
I would also like you to add classes to our cars we could put the class for the car when we add a car and if i have a muscle car i could find other muscle cars easier.
i hope i havent overstepped my boundary's here
