I hate to say much (since I no longer vote in challenges) but would like to say just a few things. If the crew from Motortopia did every single thing suggested (many cannot be done, some are too impractical, and a few are ???) it would not make people behave in a responsible mature manner. That seems to be what is lacking and I do not see how Motortopia can change that. Yes, I lean toward helping a friend. All things being equal, I will fall on the friends side of the fence every time. All things not being equal I will vote for the best ride, as I see it.

    Just a few thoughts,
    Jerry

You hit it on the head Jerry, thats what a friendship is all about lending a hand when help is needed, and it was just proven with a 400 point difference recently in the challenges.

As for changes I would like to see a few of those ideas implemented.
The first is proof of ownership, because I have found a lot of discrepencies with people saying the own what they own.
Such as wrong year for a vehicle, vehicles that wernt offered in that year I even found a few vehicles with the wrong make do these people deserve my vote? even if others think its a better ride obviously not, and i have been critisized for voting against them even thou they were lying about ownership.

It would be really simple. Just write Motortopia, the date and your user name on a piece of paper, take various shots, engine interior exterior with the paper and that would be proof of ownership.

I AN SO PROUD THAT WE ARE FINALLY HAVING THIS DISCUSSION
MESSAGE ME ANYTIME YOU WANT AND I WILL REPLY ASAP

#1 I THINK 25 IS TO HIGH I WOULD THINK 10 WOULD BE ENOUGH BUT WE CAN TWEAK THE NUMBERS ANY TIME BUT I AM FOR # OF VOTES THEN CHALLENGE

#2 OPT IN WOULD BE BETTER

#3 I SEE NOTHING WRONG WITH GROUP CHALLENGES AS LONG AS ITS GROUP ON GROUP AND NOT GROUP ON INDIVIDUAL

#4 INSTEAD OF GETTING RID OF STATS
MAYBE YOU COULD CLEAR THEM AND LET EVERY ONE START BUILDING THERE STATS ANEW ON A BETTER PLAYING FIELD.

#5 AN OTHER REASON FOR CLASSES
DRAG CARS DEPEND ON PERFORMANCE STATS EVEN COULD ADD 1/8 AND 1/4 MILE TIMES
BUT THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CLASSICS OR SHOW CARS
WHERE PAINT AND INTERIOR WOULD HAVE NOTHING TO DO WITH DRAGS

#6 OR WITH NO STATS JUST GIVE THE CAR YOU LIKE BEST YOUR VOTE

#7 I SAY KEEP THE MEMBERS INVOLVED IN CHALLENGES
AND MAYBE IF CHALLENGES ARE WITH IN 25 POINTS THEN INVOLVE JUDGES
JUDGES COULD BE 5 TOP CHALLENGE WINNERS FROM THE PREVIOUS MONTH CHALLENGES

#8 I PERSONALLY THINK CLASSES WOULD HELP AND IF YOU CAR COULD QUALIFY IT COULD BE IN MORE THAN ONE CLASS

#9 TO MANY PEOPLE LIKE TO LEAVE COMMENTS I THINK THEY SHOULD STAY OR MAYBE LEAVE IT UP TO THE CHALLENGERS IF THEY CAN OPT COMMENTS ON OR OFF

#10 NEVER GET RID OF CHALLENGES
YOU CAN ADD LIKE A MONTHLY CAR SHOW WHERE LIKE AT A PEOPLES CHOICE SHOW YOU GET TO VOTE FOR THE TOP 5 CARS IN EACH CLASS
THE ONES WITH THE MOST VOTES WOULD BE THE WINNERS AND YOU COULD LIST AS DEEP AS YOU WANT LIKE 2ND 3RD 4TH AND SO ON
YOU COULD ALSO JUDGE THE SHOW MONTHLY WOULD GIVE YOU ENOUGH TIME TO DO THIS

#11 SOME PEOPLE DON'T LIKE TO GET MESSAGES ABOUT CHALLENGES
GIVE THEN SOME SORT OF OPT OUT SO THEY DON'T RECEIVE CHALLENGE MESSAGES

    THANKS FOR LISTENING

There have been a lot of very good ideas posted to change the challenges to make them better. The problem is even though they help level the playing field, they will never make them fair.
People will always for the most part, vote for their friends or their favorite vehicle. As an example I've always loved flame paint jobs and would tend to vote for that car regardless of what work the other had done.

I do think that a member should have to opt into the challenges. To help with new member, a welcome to the site message should include a description of the challenges and how they work. The fact that even though a member believes they have a better car doesn't always mean they'll win a challenge. Motortopia can explain that members will for friends and that challenges are not always fair.

A way to classify cars into groups and only letting people challenge in that group would keep similar cars in challenges. If the groups could be car or truck in classic, muscle, stock, family, modified, sports and custom. The closer the vehicles the closer the challenge.

I don't think restricting new members from entering challenges is fair, as long as they are told up front the way is works.

I would also lower the number of challenges that can be sent out in 24 hours to 2 or 3 or maybe change it to 10 a week.

I would do away with the monthly winner list. If members are challenging just to see their name in the top 10, then do away with it. My name has been on the list, but is not the reason I do challenges.

If that lowers the number of challenges being sent out, so be it. I know when I first starting in challenges it took a long time to get through all of them. I think the reason people don't vote in all the challenges is the length of time it takes.

I don't think allowing a special group to decide a challenge would be fair. A challenge still will always come down to a person personal opinion and that is always subject to their own likes and dislikes.

Here's my thoughts on this Challenge thing on this site. If one is going to take part in these Challenges, keep it civil, keep it light, and keep it friendly. Think of how you'd feel, if you were face to face with the other person, and they said something disparaging about your vehicle. This is supposed to be fun, and help promote the Hobby, not be a place where one goes to be able to insult another vehicle owner, while hiding behind a Computer Screen. Besides, this hobby has suffered more than enough attacks from the outside, and continues to suffer more than its share of attacks from the outside, let's at least not be beating up on one another here.

Just a thought, but since it seems people vote for their buddies more instead of voting for more of the better vehicle, and also it seems to be to have a high ranking, either monthly or all time or however it works, these would be my thoughts.
    1. Do away with the rankings. Some piddly people think they have to be number one everywhere and anywhere, and it just isn't necessary.
    2. Keep the car's win/loss numbers only for that person's own viewing (don't make it public knowledge.) Again, more for the "I have to be #1" syndrome.
    3. Limit the number of challenges you can be in at any one time to a low number-say somewhere around 1-3 -and lengthen the time limit-something like 2 weeks. Hopefully that would make someone enter a challenge and actually think about it. Like, is this challenge really worth my time? It would also give people who don't visit the site regularly a chance to see more of them if they so choose.
    4. Let any visitor vote on a challenge. They shouldn't necessarily have to be a member on Motortopia to vote. That might level the playing field a little bit.
5.Maybe in addition to the challenges, have an online car show with different classes and such. Then there could be a vote for people's choice in all these classes. That would have to be something like a quarterly or yearly deal. I think monthly might be a little much.
I agree that the challenges should be all in fun, but with the experience I have had, I won't compete with anyone for the simple fact that I don't want to be ganged up on. There are alot of nice cars here, and everyone takes pride in their ride, and someone who puts their money, time and blood into a project shouldn't have to deal with any group voting on something that is anything but legit. I almost want to do away with the comments, too, but I guess everyone should have the opportunity to comment on a car in the challenge. It would have to be up to the individual to actually adhere to this thought and not be as immature to basically throw a group sign into the comment area. I just don't feel there is any place for it. Those are my thoughts for now, hope there is a happy medium somewhere.

Basically, it seems that when one introduces the anonymity factor of the Internet into the equation, that then the immature, the ugly, and the inconsiderate come out of the woodwork. For my money, I'll stick to fighting to get more hobbyists involved on the Legislative front, where the attacks may not be personal, but the damage to the hobby WILL touch EVERYONE, no matter how big, or small they are.

Voting on challenges should be done for the vehicle, and not the member of the club or enthusiast group you're in!

Too many people vote for their club member even if the other car they are challenging is better. that's just not fair to the person who took the time to do up their car, and lose to a stock car with no mods at all.

Start voting for the best car, and not the club or group and challenges will be fair.

well all i have to say it was the unfair and underhanded challeges on rankmyride.com is what did them in alot of the vetran players came over to this site as did i to have fun, now i'm seeing the same drama here like i saw at RMR bigger teams beating up on crewless members or newbies, just institute a handicap system to balance the playing field, and for those who create drama just kindly cancel their accounts. scratchchin image

I'VE SEEN ALOT OF GOOD IDEAS,BUT IF IT WERE UP TO ME I WOULD KEEP IT NICE AND SIMPLE. HERES WHAT I WOULD LIKE TO SEE DONE ON THE CHALLENGES ISSUE.(1)NO COMMENTS SECTION, JUST VOTE (2)CARS CHALLENGE CARS,TRUCKS CHALLENGE TRUCKS,BIKES CHALLENGE BIKES,ETC....(3)ANY VEHICLE IN A CHALLENGE SHOULD BE NO MORE THAN 8 YEARS WITHIN EACH OTHER. A VEHICLE FROM 1980 CAN ONLY CHALLENGE ANOTHER VEHICLE IF IT IS A 1972 UP TO 1980 OR 1980 UP TO 1988(4)TRY TO KEEP VEHICLES IN THERE OWN CLASS WITHOUT GOING INTO ANOTHER GENERATION.{THE 8 YEAR DIFFERENCE IS ONLY MY OPINION,AND CAN BE ADJUSTED}(5)VOTE THE TRUTH,NOT BECAUSE ITS YOUR FRIEND wave image OR A GROUP grouphug image : MEMBER,VOTE AS IF YOU WERE A JUDGE AT A CAR SHOW.BOTTOM LINE---BEST VEHICLE GETS THE POINTS---THATS IT! wink image SERG
