I say get rid of challenges all together. They are a "Blackeye" to this site. They cause all of the problems and there is really no solution to the gang mentality that takes place here. I really get tired of the "Spite" Challenges and the constant emails of members asking to me to vote for them because they got challenged by some idiot that posted a lawnmower as his car or something like that (like they don't know they have a choice when accepting). I think that the voting/trophies on pics is enough. I'm really growing tired of this site and the way it has become. Motortopia should be a a networking site for Car Nuts not Nuts in general that have nothing better to do than to sit at a computer and bash others. mad image

    I like these ideas.
But still give people the chance to opt-out of challenges altogether!

Although the challenges were a good idea, they will always result in votes for friends, club members, and in response to specific requests from another member of the site. That's just human nature. I don't think that you can legislate against that.

So I would not be upset if the challenges disappeared from the site.

I just came directly to this link someone sent it to me when I made a comment on how the challanges are not fair and if he lost again what was he thinking even trying I had thought both of us spoke and said no challanges for us. Maybe he thought different and has been doing them.
Anyway I did one and I will honestly tell you both the other person and I were asking for our friends to take a look at the challange, nothing else until it came down to me, the dumb blonde not knowing he had been asking groups of people in his clubs to vote for him, not look at the challage but Vote for him. Then the game changed and our friendship was lost. Now I must say I was at that time the one and only solid akle corvette matching number and original paint corvette. I have in challanges in groups we go to have placed one of three 98% of the time. I can truely say 98% ...oops 99% this year. Now this is out of groups of cars that are 100-300-1500 cars on our largest show.. The largest show the 1200 thats the one I don't place in and I don't regret it. The cars are awesome and original owners one guy had a car that was a lincoln and he drove it off and on sunny days all his life he is 87 years old. Now how could he not win with the beautiful paint the awesome up~keep.
Now for challanges on the internet......its friends and clubs. I never got involved with them again after one time I won't even vote for anyone. I hope whatever has been changed hopefully the bugs will work their way out. Judge it like a car show, car catagories, and if one person sends out a please vote for me note, hopefully that person receiving it will forward it to the moderators, then it will be a cancel win to the other.
I would rather see a question answer area to help each other out to find parts, help with questions and answers of our cars.
my thought......hugs to all play fairly now...Susie

Basically, everyone has a different opinion as to what they are motivated by and what they like. I've backed off the challenges because I was getting over twenty emails a day asking for my vote on a challenge. Being challenged was also beginning to wear thin. Unfortunately, I'm not retired or have lot's of time on my hands. Running a business is time consuming. However, I love this site and try to get here as often as possible, even if it's once a week or less.

I recall the original challenges would have the leader of all challenges posted on the front page. It became obvious that 'recognition' was the motivating factor of everyone who had an ego to bolster by getting their car on the top of the list. Good competition in some circles. However, there is no level playing field here as everyone notices from those who have the largest organized groups who vote en mass without consideration of the challenge. Negative comments can be flat out rude as some who have their favorite manufacturer blinders on. Moderators can help here, but, I would imagine it would take a lot of work.

Challenges would be hard to make fair to everyone on a level playing field unless those who VOTE began to consider their real preference. I don't have an answer as to what rules would work. Some are going to vote for friends, specific brand, model, flames and color etc. That's just what people do. Challengers who pick to go against a nice vehicle vs their Moped or junker are just asking for the results. However, I've seen some junk that lead challenges just because of the friend voting factor and that's when you wonder what the point is. Obviously, we think our vehicle is the BEST and can't stand it if we get beat on challenges. However, there is NO PLACE for negative or personal attacks. As everyone knows it's a small world out there and you never know who might just show up at the same car show. Phantom rudeness isn't any more acceptable than in person rudeness. So be friendly and have fun. Life is too short to be stuck on the road with a vehicle breakdown and no cellular service only to watch as everyone passes you by......

I will repeat myself again. Do away with the challenging the "No Longer Owned" cars and a car you have never owned. I like what the Texaco Car of the Decade site has done with the different views. Many people have complained about other people posted cars on this site that they don't even own - do the mandatory 7 different views of the car. If everyone has the own criteria - there isn't any reason to have the 3 point system. Do away with that - choose the winner and that is it. Cut and dry.

More importantly, people have to remember that this is just a Website, it's not your life's work, it doesn't pay your Bills, it's supposed to be fun, and bring hobbyists together.

Too many people vote for their club member even if the other car they are challenging is better. that's just not fair to the person who took the time to do up their car, and lose to a stock car with no mods at all.

Start voting for the best car, and not the club or group and challenges will be fair.

I've never been a big fan of the challenges. It's only natural that you vote for someone in your group; people do it all the time without any malice; others do it just to do it. I like the 7 views idea and not using cars you don't own. That makes sense. Maybe make it mandatory to do a semi detailed write up of you customization/restoration? When I did vote, I based a lot of my opinion off the write up of the work done.
