You should create a new protal for recreational vehicles which would include, electric scooters, 4-wheelers, pedal cars, tractors, RV campers, etc.

Currently there isn't a portal designed for them specifically so they default to the "car" portal. Now they are becoming active in the challenges and are potentially skewing results for the "top challenges." I know that it really hasn't happened yet, but it's still a potential.

We thought about expanding the portals to include things like recreational vehicles. At one point, we were thinking of adding RV's to the site for such things as Airstreams, etc. Is this what you had in mind?

And, of course, we are out here in the midwest, so tractors might be good. If others chime in, this might be something we can suggest to the development team.

I was just thinking a catch-all for the 4-wheelers, snow mobiles, pedal cars, lawn mowers, etc that are on the site. It wouldn't be that big of a deal, but then they get involved in the challenges. I've seen some challenge each other, which is fine, but I think they should have their own area for that.

I don't think it has affected the challenge winners to this point, but there's also the potential for that down the road as well.

I like this idea as well. I've got a couple of off the wall items like those already mentioned that I'd like to showcase, but that don't really fit in what's already here.

    Just my $.02.

Do you think it might work if we started off with an enthusiasts group on Motortopia for these "catch all" vehicles; and then expanded that into an entire portal as we saw it grow. If if grows and there are a lot of folks on it; we can build a portal, no problem; but I think we might like to see how much interest there is. So, how about we start an enthusiasts group; and we could feature that in our next newsletter as well and see if we can generate some interest.

    Thoughts?

    Thank you.

That might work to see the level of interest. However, the issue is still there. Tractors, lawn mowers, bicycles, 4-wheelers, snow mobiles, etc don't really have their own "place" yet owners want to show them off as well. I'm not as active in the challenges as I used to be, so I'm not sure if that is still an issue.

And please don't misunderstand me either. I think it's great that people want to show off their stuff. Let's just get a place where the can show it off. I also know that there's got to be a limit on it as well. Who's to say it should stop there...why not make a portal for trucks too? So with that in mind, I would make the following recommendations:

Keep the existing portals as they currently are:
Cars- for all vehicles requiring registration to drive on a road
    Bikes-self explanitory
Boats- for all boats, wave runners, etc
    Planes- also self explanitory

I would then add one portal for vehicles that do not require registation to operate. Again, I would call this portal "recreational vehicles."

I understand the thought behind making an enthusiast group. I see the need to see how much demand there is for a new portal before you commit the resources required to create the new portal. But for those who do not regularly visit motortopia, the word might not reach them. If you add it to the newsletter that would definitely help. There are just so many enthusiasts groups that it's hard to sift through them all. I know that I've found out about groups only because I noticed them on others' pages.
