Why is it that no matter what Jerry and Mary's house blogs are always listed as the most recent posted? I don't blog a ton, but no matter what, their blog is ALWAYS on the top. I don't mind that they blog every day. That's cool, but do they ALWAYS have to remain on the top of the blog list? That gives the rest of us less time on the main page. Just wondering. I like people to check out my blogs, pages and pics, but most of the time, people only check out what is shown on the main page...and theirs is ALWAYS on the top. Why is that so?

PS Even the CEO of motortopia does not trump them from that spot!

Jerry and Mary are the most prolific bloggers on Motortopia. The main page is cached, meaning it's built once by the server, then a copy is kept on hand to give to anyone visiting the main page. After 15 minutes the old copy of the main page is deleted, and then it's rebuilt the next time someone visits the main page. Jerry and Marry just seem to be in sync with the cache schedule of the main page. smile image

We've got a few projects ahead of us, and one of them is taking a look at ways to improve blogs on Motortopia. Suggestions are always welcome.

They can't be...that would mean sitting in front of the computer constantly. I posted my blog a matter of less than 5 minutes before the "cached" page was deleted and rebuilt...yet they remained #1. They don't update their blog every 15 minutes. I know they blog a lot and that's great, but there's got to be a way to give other's their time on the page. I am serious and not exaggerating when I say that they are ALWAYS on the top. I've been paying closer attention to it the last couple weeks. I'm on motortopia multiple times per day. They are always there at the top.

Maybe one suggestion should be time of original blog. Edits should not change the time of the blog post. I don't know that this is what they are doing, but again, every 15 minutes? I really don't think so. I believe there to be some type of glitch in the system that is allowing them to be at the top all the time.

I suggest you keep an eye on it. You will notice that no matter what, they are always on the top. Anyone else blogs, they are automatically #2 on the list. Try it yourself. You even have the benefit of timing it so it is posted just before the new cached is loaded. You will see that no matter what, they stay on the top.

It has to do with the date they enter on the blog. I made an adjustment to address the problem, let me know if it doesn't work for any reason.

To clear this up a bit so there is no confusion, blogs show up on the main page in the order members enter them. This was not the case before, and this is now working properly.

And, here is some more explanation of this fix from out tech team. We want to point out that we really appreciate everyone who is on Motortopia and everyone who blogs on Motortopia. And a special thanks to Jerry for all his help, support, and blogging. He helps spread the word and is also very involved with the full community.

Thank you to everyone for pointing this out and for getting it fixed. We want to make sure that this did not seem to be picking out Jerry; not at all. We were really just fixing a bug that was brought to our attention.

    Thanks again, everyone.

We fixed a bug. There are two date stamps on a blog post: the date/time the blog post is created, and the date/time a user manually types into the window to "sort" the blog post onto their own garage page.

The bug is that we were sorting the blog entries on the front page using the date/time they manually typed in, not the "created on" date, meaning that the the newest blogs weren't always going to the top of the list, sometimes they were going after (lower than) blogs that had been previously written. We fixed the sorting so it now sorts on the date and time when the blog entry was actually written, regardless of the date the user types in.

This was not done because of anything Jerry was doing, it was just fixing an existing bug on the site that we noticed last week when a blog post that was written in the morning got "stuck" in the top spot in the afternoon, even though newer blog posts were being written that afternoon.

Thanks for the fix. I suspected some type of glitch all along. You guys are great when it comes to fixing things on this site. Keep up the great work!
