I have just recently bought my first "BIG" project car. I have a '71 Monte Carlo. I am currently going to college to become a certified automotive technition. I have a passion for cars and am now just finding out that I have a talent for fixing them and learning how they work.
This is my project in which any advice will be apprieated.

The body at the moment, which is actually in decent condition, needing only minor changes such asd rear quarter pannles, trunk pan welding and deff a new paint job, is the last stop on the list. It is a vinyl top though, and I do want to turn it into a hardtop(which I really do need advice on).

Under the hood is pretty much bare leaving only about the winshield wiper fluid left under it at the moment. I plan on putting a 454 enging and a 400 turbo transmision in it, hopefully by winter.

Inside is in really good condition as well though. It came with no dash, stearing column(originaly column shift), bench seats. I have a dash in now(green, intieror is blue). So I need to get the color changed, although I am not sure if I plan on leaving the intieror alone or changing it. I still need a stearing column but I want to change the car to floor shift and into bucket seats, depending on costly factors.

So I am mainly planning on getting the car up and running by mid summer so that it is better than new. The body is going to be last besides the things that I do have to fix imediatly so that more damage does not occure. Next year I should be certified to work on it and be able to do it myself. Currently I am working on becoming a certified technition.

Any advice that people want to give me I'm welcome to. I have never gone to this extent on a car and don't want to make any major mistakes. Also if anyone has advice on switching a vinyl top to a hard top, I am in major need of advice.
