#1 Nov 23, 2009 at 9:18 amMan what is happening to NASCAR. This season racing seemed to be predictable and some what boring. I do like the double file restarts and this helped keep my interest but something missing. Maybe it's just me! What do you all think? Thanks Dave.

#2 Dec 1, 2009 at 11:19 amI have lost some interest in NASCAR and never really watch a full race on television, and only went to one of the RIR races (only an hour away from me) this year.
I long for the days of "what wins on Sunday sells on Monday", when there was a distinct difference in the race cars and the were actual representatives of models sold on the show room floor. I can't tell any of the cars apart today.
As far as Jimmy Johnson goes, I don't have any issues with him winning four championships in a row, although not a fan. He is a good, talented driver that just happens to be blessed with the best team, best support and best cars on the track. But it really would have been nice to see Martin win it all this year.
And I'm also concerned that there may come a day when one or more of the three remaining domestic car companies may not even be in NASCAR and Toyota will dominate. I definitely wont be attending any races when that happens.

#3 Dec 2, 2009 at 4:53 pmBeing kind of an old guy, I haven't watched much since Richard Petty and that era of drivers retired...LOL...dating myself!
I suppose when you have big money and sponsers, and a talented driver...it's house cleaning time, it's always interesting to see more than one winner or title sweeping team, that just makes for good racing and fans, and that means $$.
Yes I agree with carfanatic, watch the race and note the cars, and then go see one on the show room floor...For sure on trying to identify the car...NOT! That was a big part of the car companies market appeal to the consumer...that really has changed!
LOL...maybe it will be the Hybrid Nascar

#5 Mar 3, 2010 at 11:38 pmFor me personally, the drivers at the top are boring to race fans. Nascar seems to want these drivers to be more polished to be presented by the media and corporate world than to be themselves. I could never stand Dale Earnhardt when he was still alive. After he died, I found out the real reason I watched WINSTON CUP racing. It was Dale Earnhardt. He may very well be "The Last American Hero".
#6 Mar 28, 2010 at 12:41 pmNASCAR suffers from the same malady as all other forms of racing in the U.S. It has become a part of the entertainment business. It is no longer a true sport.
Like all big businesses NASCAR is very risk adverse, and they emphasize marketing above true competition. They are simply not interested in having truly great drivers and intense competitors who are looking for the greatest possible speed. It has become a "spec. racing" series. They might as well be racing go carts.
Now don't get me wrong: The current drivers are GOOD, and I am sure the teams do the best that they can with the cars that they are permitted to buy. But that is the larger point. NASCAR wants GOOD LOOKING, and WELL BEHAVED drivers, and they have limited the technology of the teams as much as they can to try to make the outcome of every race little more than a lottery.
The ugly truth is that most of the speed records on NASCAR tracks were set in the early 70's and the cars continue to get slower every year. Danica Patrick should be the "poster child" of modern NASCAR. She is a very good driver, but it isn't her driving skills that have gotten her where she is today. Her success is based on her good looks, and the same is true of almost all the current drivers in NASCAR today. It is sad to say, but A.J. Foyt, or Richard Petty would never make the cut in what passes for racing any more.
That is why I don't watch NASCAR.
Any fool can drive fast in a straight line.

#8 Apr 24, 2010 at 8:58 amI would like to see what they could do with a car from the lot like the old day's, make them safe and race. It would be great to see all the different makes out there beat'en and bang'n again. John
The need for is growing and spring is time to bring out the BARR"S AM for the shake down run, hope all of you are ready as I am.
#9 Apr 26, 2010 at 7:38 amDebris on the track!!!!!
(10 laps to go)
Debris on the track!!!!
(Everyone pits for fresh tires and one last chassis adjustment)
Bunch up all the cars and take away any advantage that the top drivers were enjoying!!!
I'ts all pretty predictable now.
I'll still watch the races, but only the last 50 laps or so.
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence that you tried.
#10 May 17, 2010 at 6:58 amBeing an Race car driver myself, and a NASCAR fan, i can honestly say i dont like where NASCAR is heading.. something i see as a good idea, some makes wanna go slap mr france around.
A.) These dumb COTs. worst thing is Nascar sence Sam Hornish joined. Lets not make them in to indy car, obviously we have forgotten that the sanctioned body is STOCK CAR, in which a splinter on the nose and a park bench wing on the trunk do not look stock to me, I miss the old cars, now they look like rice cars
B.) Can we Please keep the IRL and NASCAR Separated? Sam Hornish Jr. Has LITERALLY hit the wall everyweek, these guys are coming over here, god knows why, and taking out good drivers, or brining out unnecessiary cautions because you cant hold a straight line, NOW that being said, im going to do it. Dannicamania needs to go away, im not a Dannica hater because she is woman, so i dont want people accusing me of that, BUT why i dislike her, 1. what has she really done? 2. why is it that she has a store on nascar.com that is advertised with Jr, Johnson, but the guy who has won 3 races this year (Hamlin) does not, and oh yea shes in NATIONWIDE! 3. Im so sick of hearing these fly-by-night fans saying who cares if she can drive, shes hot, please go find another sport to watch, because HOT does not make you fast what so ever. Im just saying..
C.) Heres my take on the whole Johnson thing. Either you got it or you dont, Johnson HAS it, now that being said, i dislike Johnson and I dont care to see him win another one, Why you ask? well for starters, have you ever listened to Jimmie and Chad? they are as arrogant as it gets! Go ahead and get the champaign ready?? now come on, Had anyone else said that, it would have been a big deal, Another reason.. It is honestly bad for a sport, now, let me ask you this, these cars are inspected 100% the way through, so there is no margin for cheating, but who has been busted hmmm... Mr. Knaus? so i think its a possibility or hes a good driver with unlimited money, with Gordon and Hendrick owning your car, i think you have the answer. But the reason i think it is bad for the sport, fans hate seeing the same guy win everyweek unless you are a 48 fan, if your fav is one of the other 42 other cars out there, you cant stand this guy! But you have to admire what he has accomplished. that being said GO HAMLIN!! lol
D.)Ok my final one. Nascar has put the power in the hands of the drivers, which in the time period of end of last year- this year has been apparent. Hey if you have watched Madhouse, then this is the best thing thats happend for you, with the Hamlin vs. Keslowski, Edwards vs. Keslowski, Hamlin vs. Bowyer, its like adding a UFC fightcard to each race and putting them in 800hp cars. makes it exciting. BUT there is a point to where you draw the line nascar. The line is what edwards did, now I am a 99 fan, ive meet Carl and set aside from Ernie Irvan he was the coolest nascar driver i have got the chance to talk to. But the out come was wrong, he didnt mean for it to happen the way it did, but it did, ill admit it, i got a cheap giggle when i saw the 12 go in the air, but that is endangering the lives of the drivers, and to take a guy out on the lead lap while your a couple laps down, well thats like a random guy at a football game sacking the QB out of the stands, its just not right. The deal with Hamlin and Brad, all fair in my eyes, he spun him twice, Denny sent him on his way. and it was funny to see, Hamlin and Bowyer this past week, hell guys it was a racing deal, clint spun the tires, denny was trying to go, that outcome happend, Keslowski did it to Lagono last year but lagano did take him out under caution. a dumb showing displeasure would be fine or a simple one finger wave, but they took it too far. So nascar, i agree with giving the drivers the power. but step in when these things get out of control. They are heading back in the right direction to make it fun, like the power thing, putting the good spoilers back on, and the whoe bump drafting thing, But they need to continue to make these things happen.
I went to the TMS race this year and let me tell you from 17 to go when the huge wreck happen till after Denny finished his dounuts, I was on my feet, it was an outstanding race and ive been seeing them alot this season, so my words for NASCAR, keeping going in the direction your headed, just dont start slipping back to what it was 2 years ago, make it what it was in the time of Dale Sr, DW, Petty and all the greats and there will be more fans join on.
thats my $.02
