Just inheritited another money pit from a friend....71 MG Midget... Had been in his garage for 25 years without any maintenance.... cranking etc...
Had a mechanic friend over and he could not manually turn the blades on the water pump so we proceeded to remove the plugs use some jumper cables to the starter with no success...Power to the car but nothing turned... He said the engine is ceased and the costs prohibitive to free/rebuild it...
I was hoping to get this old baby running and enjoy it as is... Car evidently was running fine with new SU's 25 years ago..
Before I sell it for parts is there anything I might try or do... Like a WD40 bath?
any help would be appreciated...Thanks, RK

YOU COULD TRY MARVEL MYSTERY OIL IN THE CYLINDERS AND LET SET FOR A FEW DAYS.
BUT FIRST BUY A SET OF OVERHEAD GASKETS "SHOULDN'T COST MUCH" AND PULL THE HEAD FIRST OR YOU COULD BEND THE PUSH RODS IF YOU HAVE ANY VALVES CEASED UP
THERE SHOULD BE A NUT WHERE HARMONIC BALANCE IS BOLTED ON. PUT A RATCHET THERE AND GET A CHETA PIPE WORK THE MOTOR BACK AND FORTH SLOWLY TILL YOU CAN GET IT TO GO ALL THE WAY AROUND
SOME PEOPLE EVEN PULL THE DISTRIBUTOR FIRST TO SAVE IT FROM ANY DAMAGE
ONCE YOU HAVE IT SPINNING FREELY YOU SHOULD TAKE YOU HEAD TO A MACHINE SHOP AND LET THEM CHECK THE VALVES AND MAKE SURE EVERY THING IS WORKING PROPERLY DO THE SAME WITH THE DISTRIBUTOR.
PUT IT ALL BACK TOGETHER AND CRANK IT UP.
SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO ALL THIS FOR LESS THAN $200.00 IF EVERYTHING IS OK.
A NEW SET OF RINGS AND AN OIL PUMP SHOULDN'T COST MORE THAN $100.00 AND I WOULD GO AHEAD AND DROP THE PAN PULL THE PISTONS RERING THEM AND HONE THE CYLINDERS AND INSTALL THE NEW OIL PUMP
THOSE ARE SOME OF THE SHORT CUTS AND YOU CAN DO AS LITTLE ARE THRALL A JOB AS YOU LIKE BUT WITH THAT LONG OF A SET UP YOU REALLY NEED A COMPLETE OVERHAUL
YOU COULD HAVE SOME IMPORTANT OIL JOURNALS PARAFFINED UP OR CLOGGED AND YOU COULD RUIN A CAM OR CRANK WITHIN JUST A FEW MILES
    HOPE THIS HAS HELPED
    ROGER
    P.S.
    I'LL SEND A BILL

Pull the heads and see what you have...I just finished a Camaro that "ran good, but made a few funny noises every now and then" Checked the oil and it had anti-freeze in it, so we pulled the heads and found 7 pistons in the 327 small block V-8...You also may have chewed the teeth off your starter if the engine did not spin, but the starter did...Judge is spot on though...once you have the heads off, you may as well spend the money and do it right...If you tear into it, and decide you just need a place to drop it off, I am in Bellevue NE :-D
