It's finally time to replace the stock shocks and struts on my 2005 Chevy Classic. Actually it's way past time. Like 80,000 miles past time. I drive the car carefully over nothing but paved Southern California roads, so I've gotten away with it.

However, shocks and struts play important roles in helping deliver safe steering, stopping and stability. Because worn ride control components can compromise vehicle safety, many industry professionals recommend that worn units be replaced at 50,000 miles/80,000 kilometers. So I'm REALLY past due.

I’m installing a set of Monroe Loaded struts on the car at a great shop: Connie & Dick’s Service Center in Claremont, California (http://www.connieanddicks.com/) and I know they will improve the ride and handling immensely.

I’ll let you know how the installation goes and post a review soon. They are supposed to be a simple R&R without having to disassemble the strut/spring assembly. Which means, a DIY installation with no spring compressor – and the attendant dangers using those – and no special tools.

    Stay tuned! biggrin image
