I have a 1976 Trans Am and am running into rust problems... lots of bubbles on the rear quarter.. some have broken and it is like swiss cheese under there. I am wanting to go on the 2010 Bandit Run but I want my car to be in better condition. I watched the video posted from the Run and those cars just look like they are in real good shape... Anyone know what I should do first?"All of us Classic Car (in my personal knowledge Trans Am)drivers have to suffer for our (and eventually pay) for our cars' beauty."

Well....according to JWF, don't worry about the car being perfect. He explained to me that a car doesn't need to be in "pristine" condition to be in this run. This run is all about having fun cruizin', not showing. That is what makes this so much fun! Mine is very far from perfect. Heck, I don't even have heat! I would like to get that fixed before the run in case I need the defrost for fogged windows, but I am planning on the tops being out most of the time! The tops might as well not even be on the car cause they leak so bad, also the felt and stripping in the doors for the windows is gone. (I will get that fixed in time.) I also have a few bubbles under panels and such. I have talked to a bodyman about fixing it, but that isn't gonna keep me from the run. If it gets done by then...great! If not, I will get it done afterwards. Let's face it, these cars are over 30 yrs old but they still catch looks and are a blast to drive!

mmfryar is exactly right. There are many different stages of condition for the TA's on the Bandit Run. Some are near perfect, some in good running condition but with faded paint, etc. Some are in the middle such as my red car. No matter, this is about cruising with the other TA's and it is a blast! You cannot describe how much fun it is until you do it! So don't worry about a little rust and few bubbles... you can repair those in time. In the meantime, enjoy the car by doing what it was meant to do... drive it!
Can't wait to see ya'll on the run!

It probably would have helped if I'd followed this discussion from the beginning, but is this the Bandit Run from Georgia to Texarcana Texas? I know there are a lot of little Bandit Runs around the country, I'm even trying to set one up from Edison NJ to Point Pleasant NJ for next July, so far though, no takers.Ben

This all began with D. Hershey and Dave Hall of Restoreamusclecar.com in 2007. The first run was from Texarkana, TX to Braselton, GA to commemorate the 30 anniversary of the Smokey and the Bandit movie in 1977. Since then, it has become an annual event and has grown significantly in the past three years. Bandit Run Routes:
2007 - Texarkana to Braselton (Atlanta)
2008 - Columbus OH to Braselton (Atlanta)
2009 - Branson MO to Braselton (Atlanta)
2010 - Atlanta to Jupiter Fl (home of Burt Reynolds)
Stay tuned to the Bandit Run group on this Motortopia site for details on the upcoming 2010 Bandit Run to take place on May 15-20, 2010. Or simply follow www.thebanditrun.com for details.
Hope you can join us!

Wish I could, but I'll be lucky if I can afford the Edison to Point Pleasant NJ Bandit Run, IF we ever get enough participants to make that one even happen.
Maybe you can carry a photo of my Trans Am, so I can be there in spirit.

Don't get me wrong, it isn't in that bad of shape, but your right, when I reviewed some of the videos on the 2009 Bandit Run, these cars look mint!
I think I am going to lag towards the back of the line! LOL
