If this has not been thought of:
Bufords car was a 1977 Pontiac LeMans. A key part of the movie was how it was falling to pieces as the chase went on.
Maybe pick up a couple of old '77 LeMans and break each one down in stages for the race. Spot them along the route and pull them out as scripted. Could be good for a laugh and pub. Get some locals in the different parts of the run to put these cars together to help out.birds4ever

i've been looking on ebay for one to do just that, but they're in too good of condition to cut up. i don't want to spend a grand on a car that i'm just going to ruin. -

Quite possibly, the latter sugestion would work out better. If you have a project coordinator, see if they can pick out a couple of spots along the way and find some of the locals to sponsor a car in the condition it needs to be in per the script.
Start out with the full car for the first 50 miles or so, and then in the next state, a business may want to get involved for the publicity and have a car for the next stage. Then someone in the next state, and so on. Let them travel for 25 to 50 miles with the show. This could very well establish more interest for the whole run.
Maybe a Pontiac dealer, custom shop, bone yard, local TV or Radio, car magazine, etc.
Just a thought.birds4ever

If you find one near Concord, NC. I'm willing to buy it and make a Beauford car.

The Bandit run was a BLAST! I'm ready for the next one...It was the least I could do, and I'm always willing to do the least.
