Any idea as to just how many people are gonna make it or already registered? While I'm not yet registered, count me in because Hell or highwater, I'll be there for the Hammond-Biloxi-Mobile leg of the run. My registration in by the end of the month....Ive been putting back a little money each payday so I dont go without on anything around here.

I haven't heard an official number except for Deb saying we have a record number of hotel rooms reserved at most all of the overnight stops. applause image yes image

I got to get going. Not much time. I have spend the last year reassembling/painting the 79 and took it out on the first interstate drive Saturday. I realize I have 3.73 rear gears and drinking 10-12 MPG at 60-65mph. Taching around 3400. It won't be taking my car tis year.

Instead, my 16 yr old son is grinning ear to ear as we are taking his 81 Y84. Problem is I haven't driven it yet either to know the realiability. The 4.9 should get 18mpg all day long. It is no beauty queen unless your 20 feet away. Having trouble keeping a battery charged. Changed the alternator and still not charging.

      Solargold--

Solution: Take both. Put an extra fuel cell in the trunk of the '79 and pack your clothes, tools, and spare battery/parts in your son's '81. biggrin image

Seriously, I am doing my best to take both the '73 and my '76 this year and I have the same issue. The 455 in the '73 has always been thirsty (in large part because I can't stay out of the secondaries) and I probably get 8-10 with a tailwind going downhill compared to the 16-20 I get in the '76 w/the 400ci. Both cars are fun for different reasons and I've always wanted to take the '73--if I stay on course regarding the punch list and fuel prices stabilize, I should be able to pull it off.

Re: the battery, what is the voltage showing in the gauge cluster? My guess is a bad regulator in a brand new alternator. It happens. (Check all your grounds, too).

Mike, change those 3.73 gears to a 2.73 rear end. I'm sure there's one east or west of the Mississippi to be had.

I sued to have 3:73s in my 79 and loved the stoplight to stoplight performance, but since I put a 2:56 from my brothers 78 T/A in this car, it has been ALOT more user-friendly.
I won't be going back to the 3:73 until I can get my 200-4r trans in the car, then I will have the best of both worlds.

Did you know the wheel studs on a 1979 WS6 (rear disc) axle are longer than the drum brake cars?
That was your FYI for the day!
