Topic: Who is this fellow bandit runner???
#1 Mar 2, 2012 at 11:38 amHey bandit runners! I feel like I need to say a few things. Some of you know me pretty good and some of you know me just a little and I am sure there are others that just know who I am and we never really got to get to know each other. First off, for the ones who know me pretty good, I guess most of you could say I am a laid back and somewhat quiet guy. What most of you don't know I have a hearing disability that makes it tough to be in groups such as this and be able to enjoy myself completely like most of you. So I intend to keep distant in a group setting because it's hard to be there seeing everyone having fun and being able to understand each other when I can't keep up with what is being said. So I separate myself. So a lot of you might think I been stuck up or don't wanna be apart of this bandit run family when I do. For the ones who have given me a chance and have been "real" with me, thank you! For the ones who wanna kinda write me off and don't care if I make it on the run or not, please give me a chance, you will come to learn that I really am a good guy, just misunderstood because of the hearing disability. On a positive note, at this time I am going to get a hearing eval and will be investing in hearing aides, this will change my lifestyle to the better and will make me enjoy what you all have been enjoying the last few years. Also will make me feel more like part of the group. So please bandit runners, for the love of a fellow bandit runner give me a chance and be patient with me if I don't get my hearing aides by this years run. I am looking fwd to it and looking fwd to meeting new friends!

When are you planning on heading out from IL? Didn't know if you'd be interested in cruising down together? Which car will you bring this year? Text me if you like.
How's this thing go back together???

#4 Mar 2, 2012 at 8:32 pmHi Brian, I was a new member to the Bandit Run group just last year, and I have suffered from tinnitus since 1986, so I can understand some of the problems that can come from a hearing loss.
No worries, if I seem to ignore you, just ignore me back, LOL!
I'm just pulling your leg....we'll have one hell of a great time!
I look forward to meeting you, along with each and everyone of the Runners, this year and have even more fun than I had last year.

#6 Mar 2, 2012 at 9:09 pmProbably a post in itself as many of us are uncomfortable in new groups, especially after certain bonds are established from previous events. I came alone in 2009 without knowing a soul, not knowing screen names versus real names, etc. It takes a while to get comfortable and remembering everyone a year later gets tough if you don't stay in touch.
I hope you make it. We all have something in common, whether the TA, the movie, the run, whatever. I don't think anyone is intentionally left out. There is a place for all who attend.
Any day above ground is a GOOD day!!!
#7 Mar 2, 2012 at 10:31 pmBrian- So glad you are joining us this year. One thing I understand is dealing with a disability. I sometimes find myself in a similar situation. I am legally blind. This means if you are waving at me and I don't wave back, it doesn't mean I'm stuck-up or standoffish either, it just means I didn't see you. (Thankfully Mark is usually around to tell me when to wave.) Same goes if I don't recognize folks. I have trouble with facial features. (This works out great for Mark because I can't see all those new wrinkles I give him ) So sometimes people need to tell me who they are even if I met you before.
The great thing about my fellow bandit runners is how accepting and non-judgmental they are. I feel truly blessed to be a part of the bandit run family. I am glad you let us know. I find it is easier if I am up front with people. It keeps folks from thinking I'm rude. Also, those who know me well, keep me from walking into traffic or tripping over curbs. Thanks guys! You're the best. Can't think of anyone I'd rather have watching my back. I'm sure they'll do the same for you.
Don't Y'all feel better now that you know the blind is leading the blind, lol. I promise not to drive anyone's car except Red's. He'll know what I mean.

#10 Mar 3, 2012 at 4:51 pmHey, Brian--
Can't say I remember you from previous runs, but do appreciate you making us aware of your disability and I'll make it a point to connect with you this year for certain.
Jackie is actually deaf in her right ear and I don't hear that well myself any more...but only have too many Doobie Brothers concerts in the '70s and not wearing enough hearing protection at the drag races during the '80s while helping to tune a buddy's open-header altered to blame.
