Must be nice to have a METAL roof.. us 4th gen owners don't have that luxury... frown image But I just laid my antenna in the back seat and it still did pretty well. We're hoping to have a perminant one as well as the one in the cig lighter.. one for us and one to listen to the truckers. biggrin image

what kind of setup would be good for a 4th gen? I'm on a pretty tight budget right now.

If you aren't into buying online, I would look at the truck stops... TA of America, Flying J, Pilot, etc. They seem to have the latest CB equipment and often run specials. You can also check at Radio Shack. Depending upon the store, sometimes they still carry CB equipment as well. If you aren't close to a truck stop, check the major truck stops online or the major brands of CBs such as Cobra, Galaxy, Uniden, etc.

CBradiosplus.com has a lot of radios. I am running an old Cobra 25LTD Classic that I have had for 30 years and you can still buy the exact same radio for around $60 new. A good antennae is approx $30 so for under $100, you can get a new cb rig.

I think I've settled on the 29ltd, but I don't know what antenna to put in. My roof isn't metal, and I don't know if it would connect on the lip of the hatch. any suggestions?

I found a CB shop and he showed me that, but I have aftermarket tint and sure don't want to cut into it so I had to opt away from that. The other reason is I want the antenna to attract attention in some ways.

And because the roof isn't metal I wouldn't get a good ground off of the trunk lip mount.

So I went with a magnet and stuck it on the hood. it sits crooked and so I found a hatch mount that will mount inside the body between the hatch and rear 1/4 panel. I just have to find the right antenna to go with the setup.

I put a magnetic antenna on the rear quarter panel on my 02, with a small baggy between the magnet and the panel to avoid scratches. It worked pretty well, however I went pretty fast (north of 70) and at the extreme end it fell off, but I didn't lose it because of the cable, so I pulled over and reattatched it. There are smaller antennas with suction cups that will attatch to the rear glass. hope this helps!
