May 5, 2010 at 12:29 pm: Beretta Fan: I actually saw a Vauxhall Chevette in my neighborhood in the late 70's. I don't know what it was doing here in the States, since they were never imported here... Canada, maybe? Whatever the case, it was an unusual name to choose for the car, and I'm sure many folks in Britain wondered about it!

ZanySmurph: I grew up with a succession of Chevy wagons, all with that hated third seat. First was a '66 Bel Air (Are you listening, Mary?) that originally was a 2-seat car - My dad got the 3rd seat out of a wrecked '65 Impala in a junkyard. That was followed by a wicked fast 427-powered Kingswood Estate, then a Police-spec '77 Impala... My dad is a closet hot rodder, not that he'd ever own up to it! (I admit it - I tossed my cookies in the third seats of both the '66 and the '69)

May 4, 2010 at 7:19 pm: Oh and just a little info for all people. They are to versions of the Chevette. One made in U.S. as the Chevy Chevette and one made in the U.K. as the Vauxhall Chevette.

May 4, 2010 at 7:17 pm: Thanks jim. I make mistakes in typing sometimes. Yes I meand my buddy has an '83 chevette. My aunt had 4 of them and my dad bout one for riding to work.

May 4, 2010 at 12:27 pm: Well said, Jim. In my case it was a '75 Impala wagon with the clam-shell tailgate. I got carsick more than once in the rear-facing third seat!

May 4, 2010 at 1:14 am: One more thing: PLEASE don't laugh at this car! Cars like this Chevette have a place in our hobby - Many people remember them fondly as the first new car they ever owned. Cars like this are much more indicative of the ordinary car of the 1970's and 80's than the cars that most of us are into, and they are so often forgotten. How many of us were raised riding in a Road Runner, Mustang Mach I, or a Corvette. Now how many rode in an Impala sedan or a Country Squire? Thought so. "Ordinary Cars" need to be preserved and restored, not just sacrificed for parts for "Desirable" cars. Cars like this Chevette need to be preserved - They are a slice of our automotive heritage, every bit as much as that Hemi 'Cuda convertible you've been lusting after!

(Good thing, since I know full well my BUTT won't fit in a Chevette!)
