Bob Dixon bobman58ya@yahoo.com has graciously organized a tasting at the Korbel Winery and a private tour of their dragster shop.

Based in Northern California's Russian River Valley, the Korbel team has been active in the drag racing community for decades. Heck's fleet of famous Division 7 entries include a '55 Chevy, two '61 Chevys, and dragsters, too, for Super Gas, Super Comp, and Super Eliminator. http://www.re...=45&mid=4

It's Sat Aug 28th. Our tour is set up for around 12 noon and Korbel is 1.5 hours from El Sobrante/Pinole(east bay). So we'll have to be at the San Rafael bridge by 10:30 to give ourselves enough lead time. The cruise is north on 101 to Santa Rosa, exit River Road, head east 11 miles to Kobel Winery. The private tour and tasting at the winery and the tour of the dragster shop is free(SWEEET)and they have an excellent on site deli that we can get lunch at afterward.

Two ways to cruise home...Same way we got there or out to the coast near Jenner and south along the ocean down the scenic coast highway. There are some fantastic photo ops on that route.

The best meeting place would be the Fitzgerald shopping center at the Appian Way exit off 80 in Pinole. There's a Starbuck's and gas. I'm saying meet at 9am. Leaving at 10am. That'll give a straggler a chance to get there and the rest of us time to get acquainted and check out the rides.

Tour is actually scheduled for 11:45 but the trip should only take a bit over an hour so we should be there in plenty of time. I think the winery tour lasts about 45 minutes. I don't know how long it will take to check out the dragster shop. I didn't even know they had one on site until someone told me about it. It's not something that the public are generally allowed into.

Deli takes credit cards and so does the wine shop in case anybody wants to do some shopping while there.

Ok so it's less than a month out to the Korbel Cruise and dragster shop tour near Santa Rosa. I know most of you already have it marked on your calenders, right? When I made the reservations she told me that I needed approx 20 people to make it a private tour and tasting event so I need to get a head count of who all is in to go on Saturday the 28th. I'd like to make it an all Firebird event but next down the list would be an all Pont group and if I need to fill it in with some other hot rod friends I can certainly do that as well.
