Ernie Adams Dwarf Car

April 8th, 2013 by canadianpontiacguy

Working on his property in Arizona, Adams is building cars. It’s hard to tell without another car for reference, but as you can see in the images above, 72-year-old Ernie Adams drives a very small car. Actually, the technical name is a “dwarf car,” a road-legal nearly-perfect replica of a full-sized car, and Adams built it from scratch. He’s been building dwarf cars since 1965 – all of them from scratch, by hand. Adams was apparently the first to do it.

A Dwarf Car is the end result of a dream Ernie Adams had. Ernie made his dream a reality by taking the design of early model cars and scaling them down to a smaller size.

At the insistence of excited fans, Ernie built a 1949 Mercury sedan Dwarf. This wide-bodied, low riding Mercury is fully decked out. With all its hand made chrome and amazing detail, people are awestruck at Ernie’s craftsmanship.

Here is a link to a Youtube video you might enjoy. It’s six minutes long.

Province of Nova Scotia Proclaims July 2013 as “AUTOMOTIVE HERITAGE MONTH”

April 3rd, 2013 by Motortopia

Thanks to the efforts of the National Association of Automobile Clubs of Canada, Nova Scotia Premier Darrell E. Dexter issued a proclamationdesignatingJuly 2013 as “Automotive Heritage Month” in the province.  Nova Scotia joins several states, provinces and cities that have officially recognized the celebration of collector cars.  For the past three years, the U.S. Senate has passed resolutions at the SEMA Action Network’s (SAN) request to acknowledge “Collector Car Appreciation Day” which serves to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society.  This year’s celebration is scheduled for Friday, July 12th.

In the previous three years, thousands of hobbyists in the U.S and Canada have gathered at car cruises, parades and other events to celebrate our shared automotive heritage.  By taking part in these events around the country, these automotive enthusiasts and related businesses have ensured that their passion was honored and recognized.

Individuals, car clubs and business owners have been registering their gatherings for inclusion on the SEMA Action Network (SAN) website. However you choose, please pay tribute to our hobby’s special day or month by holding or attending a celebration near you. Encourage others to follow suit. Let’s get those cars and trucks out of the garage and onto the road!

Please submit the details of your celebration. For questions, contact SEMA Action Network (SAN) Director Colby Martin at 909-978-6721 or san@sema.org. You may also download the official logo and flyer from the homepage and help promote this special day.

North Carolina Introduces Bill to Speed Titling Process for Out-of-State Older Vehicles

March 21st, 2013 by Motortopia

North Carolina Introduces Bill to Speed Titling Process for Out-of-State Older Vehicles

Legislation (S.B. 344) to provide for the prompt issuance of titles to owners of out-of-state motor vehicles that are 35-years old or older has been introduced in the North Carolina Senate.  Under the bill, if a required inspection and verification is not conducted by the Division of Motor Vehicles within 10 days after receiving a request and the inspector has no probable cause to believe that the ownership documents or public vehicle identification number does not match the vehicle being examined, the vehicle will be deemed to have satisfied all inspection and verification requirements and the title will be issued to the owner within 10 days.  If an inspection and verification is performed in a timely manner and the vehicle passes the inspection and verification, title shall issue to the owner within 10 days of the date of the inspection.

We Urge You to Contact Members of the Senate Commerce Committee (Contact Info Below) Immediately to Request Support for S.B. 344

  • Under current law, no title may be issued for out-of-state vehicles that are 35 years old or older or a specially constructed vehicle prior to the completion of a vehicle verification conducted by the License and Theft Bureau of the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV). These verifications must be conducted as soon as practical.
  • The DMV continues to delay these inspections for weeks after a request is made, and more than a month in some cases, including in metropolitan areas.  Once the inspection is completed, vehicle owners are informed that it may take weeks before a title is mailed, which stalls the timely buying and selling of vintage automobiles.
  • S.B. 344 would provide vehicle owners a fair, reasonable and reliable time period in which they could have these older cars inspected and receive title from the DMV.

DON’T DELAY!  Please contact members of the North Carolina Senate Commerce Committee immediately by phone or e-mail to request their support for S.B. 344.

Please e-mail a copy of your letter to Steve McDonald at stevem@sema.org.  Also, please forward this Alert to your fellow car enthusiasts.  Urge them to join the SAN and help defend the hobby! Thank you for your assistance.

Montana Bill to Provide for Single Year-of-Manufacture License Plate Approved by House; Moves to Senate

March 1st, 2013 by lmoharana

Montana Bill to Provide for Single Year-of-Manufacture License Plate Approved by House; Moves to Senate

Legislation (H.B. 270) to allow the owner of a motor vehicle, trailer, semitrailer, or pole trailer manufactured in the year 1948, 1949, or 1950 to display a single original Montana license plate that is affixed to the rear of the vehicle was approved by the full Montana House of Representatives.  Under the bill, the original Montana license plate must be legible and must bear the year that matches the year in which the vehicle was manufactured.   The bill will next be considered by the Senate Highways and Transportation Committee on Tuesday, March 5, 2013.

We Urge You to Contact All Members of the Senate Highways and Transportation Committee (Contact Info Below) Immediately to Request Support for H.B. 270

  • H.B. 270 would reinstate the single plate requirement that existed for motor vehicles in 1948 – 1950.
  • H.B. 270 would protect the aesthetic contours of these model year collector cars and relieve vehicle owners of the burden of having to create mounting holes on fabricated bumpers, etc.

DON’T DELAY!  Please contact members of the Montana Senate Highways and Transportation Committee immediately by phone or e-mail to request their support for H.B. 270.

Please e-mail a copy of your letter to Steve McDonald at stevem@sema.org.  Also, please forward this Alert to your fellow car enthusiasts.  Urge them to join the SAN and help defend the hobby! Thank you for your assistance.
