About carman591’s Garage
About me and my passion for cars
, in the beginning were cars, all kinds of cars…..as I said my mom said I could name them all. What was totally neat back then is we had an ESSO station right in our neighborhood and I had a miniature service station to play with, I also had a neat parking garage that had an elevator in it, and it would take a car to the level it needed to go to. I had a whole bunch of Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars and I had a Hot Wheels race track. I think back then even I had a Car Crazy Gene in me. since I didn't get my first real car until I was 17, I relied on model cars to get me through alot of things. (Still do at the ripe old age of 65) To say that model cars are important would be putting it mildly, the guy who was my best man at my wedding was one whom I met at the Local Hobby Shop, we have been friends longer than my marriage lasted, after my divorce, model cars got me through (before I met the living God). I have a friend here in Austin, TX where I live who is a model car builder and we “TRY” to get together once a month to work on whatever we are building.
I use model cars as a form of therapy, I suffer from a form of manic depression and I need something to do, so I will pull out a model and work on it, I may not finish anything for months, but through my forum I can share what I am working on and get to hear from my peers what they think.
I have had more cars than alot of my friends, i have always had a love affair with cars, i had a Meyers manx dune buggy saphire blue with a Porsche engine in it, that was a really fun car, a friend of mine who lived around the corner from me had a 1939 Ford coupe black with red interior and a small block Ford in it, it was really kewl. If I made a list of every car I ever had I am sure I would leave something out.
Now at age 65 I have more models and diecast toys than I ever have had and am about to get into the newest car I have ever had, a 2014 Chevrolet Impala loaded.
My first car
My first car was a 1959 El camino that lived it's life on blocks, I was always working on that thing. then I got a 58 Ford Fairlane 500 and took it to bootcamp with me at Ft Polk, LA in 1966. In 67 I went to Germany and while there I bought a MGA.
Car I wish I still had
1970 Plymouth GTX, root Beer Metallic with a black vinyl top, rare rootbeer interior, air grabber hood, 440 (no six pack), 727 Torque-flite trans, it was stolen and NEVER found.
My dream car
Would be a 70 T/A Challenger, Apple Green, 340 Six Pack, black stripes, black interior, Pistol Grip 4 speed, Posi-trac. Ralleye wheels mounted on Poly Glas GT Radials by Goodyar.
