About
1963 Single Cab Volkswagen Transporter truck. These little trucks were originally rated as a 3/4 ton truck and were popular in business and industrial applications.
I rescued mine from a seller in Northern CA and have been enjoying it ever since. I recently got it back on the road after a complete build up of the drive train.
Specs
While the original engine displaced 1200ccs and was rated at only 40hp, I built a 2332cc engine that is putting out 165-170hp (conservatively). I built this engine to drive, and to move the truck around with ease.
The original transmission would have included some reduction gear boxes on the ends of the axles, and would have been a standard Volkswagen swing axle transaxle, what's under the rear of the truck is very different now.
I completed a conversion to swap the rear swing axle set-up to a more stable, and improved drivability (highway speeds) IRS set-up. Like the engine, the transaxle is modified to handle the increased horsepower from the engine. But it also features custom, modified Datsun 510 halfshafts for axles.
Factory Options
None. Not even a radio.
Mods
Highly modified drivetrain. Visit my website at www.wardvwracer.com for details and pictures.
